Well I Finally got pics resized. I spent some time on Boulder this summer and fall scouting. I spent hours and hours on google earth and talking to people who have hunted it before. Got down there a few days before the hunt started to find some bulls and found this one.
Watched him Thursday and Friday while also looking for something better. Didn't find one so decided to hunt him. These elk were only feeding for a few minutes in the morning and heading off in the timber. Then we only got about 30 minutes of light in the evening to make a move. Thanks full moon!!!
Saturday morning I was sitting where we had glassed this bull way before light. He was in a spot where lots of people could find him. Got about 10 minutes to make a move on opening morning. He was gone before I could get my gear together. Saturday night he showed up in a different spot and didn't get a chance at him.
Sunday he never showed up at all so I tried to get in close to where we thought he was and I bumped him and 5 other bulls. %$#^%$#!!!! I was pretty bummed. I wondered if we would see him again. We checked out a ridge where they headed to set upa evening hunt. Had about a 400 yard shot to where we thought they might come out so me and my big bro set up. The rest of the crew went low to glass the ridges. After about 20 minutes, MY BROTHER-IN-LAW called and said he's out on a lower ridge and the only shot would be from the bottom. We hauled off the top and got into position. we were in the open and he was broadside watching us. The rangefinder read 674 yards! I checked the ballistic chart on my stock. 3 shots and missed! He went into the timber and I was bummed out. I figured at least I had my chance. A few minutes later he walks right back out. One more shot and down he goes. I hit him in the back leg and he ran down in a canyon right in front of us. He was thrashing and busting up stuff. pretty soon he was in the flat right in front of us and a few more quick shots and he was down. Gutted him and backed the truck right up to him. pulled the bike ramps out and drug him in whole! Thanks to my crew of good eyes and good help. Without them this would have been a hard hunt. Memories will last forever!
Notice the war wound. Thanks to remington and the creation of the ultra mag!
The crew!! Thanks guys! Gramps was taking the pic.
