I'm looking into getting a bow press. Does anyone have experience with the portable type bow presses? Are they reliable enough to use exclusively for occasional maintenence? Or, am I better off with a more expensive, bench-type press? Thanks

I have the Bowmaster portable press and do all my own work. It is a little slow but gets the job done. For someone that is just swapping an occasional string or installing a peep this thing works fine.

I also have the bowmaster. It works, but was a little slow and more of a pain for normal use. I went ahead and built my own with a bottle jack on the side for parallel limb bows, cost me about $45 in parts but has been well worth it for the use I get out of it. I still have the bowmaster for use when traveling and it is an economical solution for the guy who doesn't have a press. I don't use the handle that is on it though, I use a socket and a shorty ratchet. Makes it a little quicker.
