This is my first hunting post so bear with me. I moved to northern Idaho 3 years ago from montana. I have only been able to hunt the Archery Elk season 3 days in those years due to my business or other hunting adventures. WOW was I missing out. My brother came out from California for 12 days. We went for it right out of the gates. Just day hunting from my house and had bulls responding but not wanting to play each day. We decided to take the weekend off and rest, for we were headed into some steep rough country for the whole next week. Well Monday came and we loaded up and headed up to camp. The first evening I called in a nice bull to within 20 yards. Man did he put on a screaming exhibition. Could not get a clean shot though. The next couple days we had 4 more bulls under 20 but could not get good shots, real thick up here. Then on our fourth evening the bulls started to go off around 4pm. We decided to make a move on a big sounding bull only 300 yards away. We snuck in to about 80 yards and I set up to call and sent my brother in. This bull was going crazy. I let out another series of cow calls with a small spike bugle at the end and that was all if took. That bull charged in and almost busted right on by my brother when it stopped at 7 yards due to some dead fall. Well he put one right into both lungs. I heard the shot and bugled immediately to slow him. He crashed only 35 yards down the hill from where he was shot. That was at 5:30pm. We did not get back to camp until 9:30. Scored 314. What a great hunt!!
