I had been hunting my butt off for 6 days when I finally got lucky with this nice bull. It all happened on Wednesday evening, right before the end of archery season. I was stalking a spike when I heard a bull bugle above me. He started pushing his cows down through the trees towards me. I heard the cows cross the draw about 100 yards above where I was. The bull continued to bugle so I took off running towards the draw to try and cut them off. The bull bugled again so I cow called to get his attention. It worked, and I heard 2 elk crashing down through the trees towards me. I knew I had to act fast so I hid behind some bushes and drew my bow. I then saw him come down through the trees right above me. He was crashing down until he came to the bottom, and stopped just short of a trail at 15 yards from where I was. He looked at me for a split second right as I released my arrow. I double lunged him with a 125gr G5 striker. It had a complete pass through and he only went 50 yards. I was really excited. This was my first year archery elk hunting. Thanks to my brother who helped me debone him and get him loaded on our horses. I feel so blessed to get this amazing animal.
