I puurchased a Burris Fullfield II 3x 9x 40mm scope last week. It came with the free spotting scope. When I got home I noticed the spotter was made in China. So I sent and E-mail to Burris asking if the scope was mad in the USA. I thought when I bought Burris I was buying an American made scope.

This is their reply.

Mr. Judson,
We have always imported our Spotting scopes and binoculars, in fact there is not one company making binoculars in America for many years now.
The 3x-9x-40mm and 4.5x-14x-42mm Fullfield II scopes are now being assembled overseas. They are made exactly the same way we made the scopes here using the exact same materials and carry our Forever Warranty as well.

Thank you,
Burris

Beanman,
I just got of their web site and all I could find on were they are made is a big american flag on every page saying made in the U.S.A. So i went ahead and E-mailed them also, if they are made overseas I will let them have it for plastering the U.S flag all over their products. I hope it's not another case of corporate greed were they move their headquarters overseas to save on labor costs.
I did get curios and look at my leupold scope boxes, and they all say made in Oregan U.S.A also the warranty address is in Oregan.

Burris replied to my E-mail saying

All Burris scopes are made in Greely,CO USA with the exception of the spotting scopes and binoculars which have always been imported. Very recently we started having two scopes assembled overseas, they are the 3x9x40mm and 4.5x14x42 Fullfield II which is the exact same scope we made here in Greely. The exact same parts and assembly techniques are used and we inspect them on arrival 100% and still offer forever warranty.
Thank You,
Burris Company

Duvy,

Almost word for word in the reply to my Email posted above. My Fullfield II is assembled overseas it doesn't say where the country of origin is for the parts.

Fred,
We still maintain our factory in Beaverton, Oregon. While we do manufacture all of our scopes in this facility, some of the component parts, such as lenses, are purchased from foreign and domestic sources.

Most of the lenses used in scopes today are made in Europe or the Orient. The Japanese learned how to make them cheaper and we have benefitted from this offshore manufacture in pricing. As long as the warranty is backed by the companies and Leupold and Burris stand behind their products we all benefit. There are fewer and fewer products today that are 100% made in the USA.I think you bought a good product Beanman and should get years of good service from it. The sad part is that it's not going to change as long as companies can benefit from cheaper offshore labor prices. I think we have to do our research just like you did and go with the established companies that will back their products. From what I understand scope quality has actually improved as a result of these relationships and all they offer.

Beanman dont feel to bad, I bought a new Browning BPS 12 Gauge
I always thought they were made in Morgan Utah, well wrong I got my new pride and joy home and started to admire it a little closer and low and behold right on the side of the barrel made in JAPAN,not in fine print in the back of the owners manuel right on the flipping barrel.LOL what do you do? Like Boskee said fewer and fewer products are 100% made in the U.S.And we all would probably be shocked on what actually is made in other countries. But I still try to buy American.
