CA DFG in bed with HSUS

This blows my mind. CA DFG has always been a political joke, but, this is a new low.

Dear COHA Member:

Thought you would be interested in the attached press release which recently went out promoting the Department of Fish and Game's new "partnership" with the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS). Although COHA, like each of your organizations, agrees with the need to fully fund CalTip, we have serious concern with the Department's decision to enter into and publicly highlight a partnership with the nation's top anti-hunting organization.

COHA is working on an Alliance letter to Department director, Don Koch, expressing our serious concerns. Next week each of you will have an opportunity to have your organization sign on to the letter.

Thank you for your continued support,

Bill Gaines, President

Here is a link to the letter

I got this from another website, but, believe you guys need to be aware of it.

LAST EDITED ON Jun-06-09 AT 00:53AM (MST)[p]This doesn't surprise me one bit. The Calif Dept of Fish & Game has become more and more anti hunting every year. To now become "in bed" with the HUSA shows just how much the old adage, "if you can't beat them, join them" really comes into play in big time politics.

They, the F&G, can't get a handle on our Mt. Lion problem or stock our local streams with catchable trout anymore for our kids but they can join forces with hunting's #1 adversary! Just Great!!

Joey

Edit; Please tell me this is some kind of a Joke.

I don't see a problem here, actually, it looks like a good thing for us.

Now, if they traded the dogs for a seat on the board, I WOULD have a problem.

Nickman said; "I don't see a problem here,..."

Sometimes it's tough to tell when you're being sarcastic Nickman but if you aren't, i don't see how you can say that.

HUSA has repeatedly stated their goal of stopping all hunting and doing so by starting in Calif. If, from their statements and the above actions, seems like a good thing for Calif Hunters to you, i'd like to hear more on your thinking.

I think being in bed with HUSA at all or in any way is going to further hurt our interests in the future.

Joey

What a F...ing joke. Seriously this is an outrage and an embarrassment. I never support this department again if this is true.

JR

This is not a joke.

Some of you guys know that I lived in CA all my life until I moved to NM almost 5 years ago.

The folks in NM complain about the G&F in NM, but, they have no idea how bad it can be.

CA DFG had gotten progressively worse during the time I lived in CA. That being said, there were some good things in CA. My oldest son did go on some nice Youth hunts while in CA. J14 (a tough season during regular season D19) he got his first 2 bucks, Youth Antelope hunt, and pheasant/duck hunts.
It started with the adventure pass another way to extort money out of hunters, closing forests right as hunting season started, unimaginative hunting Zones and seasons, laying down on the mountain lion issue, on and on.

This takes the cake. HSUS, who's goal is to stop hunting, humanize animals is now funding the DFG Caltip program.

Man, that is a strange marriage. But then HSUS considers all of us hunters poachers, at least morally.

One more nail in the coffin.

Eel

Man, don't tell Rackmaster. You'll burst his pro-DFG bubble. Things like this will continue until we, as a hunting lobby, organize and take a stand against DFG, the F&G Commission, and government intervention in the dept in general.

Teaming with HSUS is obviously a joke and an insult to hunters. I am curious as to the relationship between Nancy Foley and her "new" friends. However, during this time of severe cutbacks in State government this public campaign for funding makes sense.

As usual the cause of the poaching rise (if true) should be discussed. I wonder if illegal immigration has anything to do with this problem. If so, why not team border agents...?

LAST EDITED ON Jun-08-09 AT 11:02AM (MST)[p]Well, CALTIP is not really a DFG division. Very little money collected from CALTIP fines gets back to the DFG account. Most of the fines are retained by the county that actually prosecutes the case.

On the other hand, the program becomes a huge DFG expense when it is used to deplete warden field hours to do investigation work on a CALTIP case.

My point was, the dogs, given free from HSUS, will take some of that workload off of warden duties, potentially saving DFG funds.

I will bet my best rifle that DFG has more HSUS dues paying members than NRA members, on it's staff.

As far as getting your panties all up in a wad about what DFG should or should not be doing......get a clue, ladies! The Department of Fish and Game could care less what you or I think about their system!

They have a simple agenda, all planned out for the fiscal year, funded by us dummies, and they will not change that plan, unless Arnold says change it.

They care way more about the Yellow Legged Frog, than they do Mule Deer.......or the people who hunt them.

Why is this not getting more posts? Wake up Cali hunters and fisherman. I hate to get so dramatic but this issue calls for it. This is very, very serious. I feel betrayed. I really love experiencing the outdoors here in California and everything it has to offer. I have been buying a fishing and hunting license for over twenty years and may never buy either again or support any organization that supports wildlife here in this state. This once great state is dive-bombing fast. I never imagined I would say this but maybe it's time for me to reside in another state. WOW.

JR

Califhuntn.......let me ask you a couple of questions.

Are you a registered Democrat?

Are you a flaming "Nature Faker"?

If you answered no to either of those questions, then there is nobody, in any California political circle, that could care less about what you think or how you feel.

You are outnumbered 10 to 1 here and you will NEVER see that change.

On top of that, they will raise every tax you are paying, raise every license fee they can find and they will cut back on the support of the things you like to do......and we will keep paying the bill....or leave.

LAST EDITED ON Jun-08-09 AT 05:24PM (MST)[p]Nickman said; "You are outnumbered 10 to 1 here and you will NEVER see that change."

Nickman, No offense but You are outnumbered 10-1 HERE on your reaction to this issue. Not saying we're going to see change for the good or even make much difference but where better to start ideas, talk it over a bit, and if nothing else, vent some frustration?

Joey

Joey, That's OK.....it's just a couple of dogs, I really don't care.

If you want to start a petition to seperate DFG from HSUS, I'll be happy to sign it. Hell, I'll even pay the the postal fees for sending it to Sacto.....just so we can stay "friends".

I'm sure I send them more "nastigrams", per year, than any 5 guys on here put together.

My only point was, there is nothing good coming "our" way, so we might as well take advantage of whatever we get. If you see it another way, I won't bleed from changing my position.

By the way, 10 to 1 against me is soft odds, most of the time.

:) :)

I learned and said a long time ago when i first came to these pages, that you look at things a bit different than the rest of "us". There's nothing the matter with that!

I think we all see, understand, maybe even agree with what you're saying. We just don't want to accept it.

Joey

C-hunting, to answer your ???, I usually don't open negative stuff so I just saw this. And I'm not surprised in the least.

Friggin state is so screwed up!!!!!!!!!!

Nothing can surprise me anymore. Needing a special permit if you don't get your dog fixed??? To me that's as bad (liberal) as HSUS running F&G.

Tax us, fine us, regulate us, permit us to death and we just say, "Can I have some more please and hold the grease!!"

This might upset a few people but I think it all started back in the 70s, when the first little hippie chick teacher quit teaching arithmatic and history and put up a "Save The Whales" poster in her 3rd grade class and everybody thought how cute that was. It's been down hill ever since.

Eel

Your wrong Eel. It was the 60s. That is when the brainwashing began.

Look at the mess our forests are in because loggers were vilified for cutting down trees.

EEL, I actually blame it all on Walt Disney......back to the 50's....Remember when the "evil hunter killed Bambi's dad"....

We have 4 generations of "Nature Fakers" that still believe that stuff.

Nickman, the evil hunter did not kill Bambi's Dad. The hunter killed the deer that raped Bambi's Mother.

Nickman is right about Disney portraying hunters as evil people. The animated film "Open Season" does the same thing.

JR

Paul, so vilified the entire industry disappeared. And it was cheaper to buy lumber from overseas.

Just one of the many industries they regulated out of business.

I'm gonna go to a huntin forum from here to read/think something positive. Bye!!

LAST EDITED ON Jun-12-09 AT 09:49AM (MST)[p]I've said for years the anti's have been infiltrating F&G Dept. for years....

If u r a true hard core big game hunter then move out of this socialist state for good. It will only get worse. Thanks to pelosi, feinstein, Boxter and Arnie who sleeps with a Kennedy. Life is too short. Get it!

I'm waiting for the day when 2 million plus lawful concerned outdoorsman march on Sacramento in our camo, waders, and fishing vests. Doctors, lawyers, judges, construction workers, and blue collar guys alike in one common goal! We are mad as hell and are NOT GOING TO TAKE IT ANYMORE!

Can you imagine it? I can, i think it would gather a lot of positive attention that us millions of sportsman state wide carry the burden of financing this states wildlife and it's high time that our State Government reward us instead of doing as they please without our interests in mind! We are a huge voting block, maybe it's time to let those in power know we are here and we are tired of the same ol crap.

Joey

I do feel bad for all you CA guys. There are a bunch of good people in one of the most beautiful states in America. I realize many of you can't just drop and leave everything behind because the city folks are aginst ya'll. All I can say is good luck and fight like hell to hang on what little you have left.

Moving out of state is not the answer. Running away never solved anything, and this problem is spreading to other states. California has a lot of hunting opportunities if you are willing to work for it. Join and support every hunting and gun association you can, especially California based organizations. such as the California Rifle & Pistol Assoc, Calif. Deer Assoc. etc.

34 million people in this state. 28 million feel " entightled". What do we have, 200,000 hunters at the voting booth? Wisconsin has 3.6 million people and on opening day of the deer gun season, 700,000 are in the woods hunting, that's 20 % vs. less then 1 % here. Do You think the peta/hsus stand a chance at the polls or politically in the hunting states. I have 20 good years left and i will leave this state to the union/socialist urban dwelling/global warming/ ##### under a pine tree ,eco idiots and move. 23 months, 5 days and 10 hours, my Son goes to college and I laugh my way east to the border. Feinstein, Pelosi, Boxter and Arnei can kiss my lead ammo , ocean fishing boat and business good bye. This state can rot in it's own welfare green warm pile for all I care.

Joey,
With all due respect,
Tell me how many Big game hunting licenses are sold in this state each year and what percentage of the "entitled" population does that represent? Educate me, please. I will give You another real experience. I went to buy a super black eagle 2 in Orange county. Trading in 6 guns that I knew were equal value and no dealer here would come close. Paid the baggage, flew to another state and traded even up, ( no double sales tax) had to call around for a ffl 3 and got frustrated. Found a small shop in Tustin who was resonable on the transfer fee. If I was a resident of another state I could have walked out with the shotgun after a 3 minute phone call to the feds. Thats not right. There is no defending this state. We pay a terrible price for the weather.

Do You really think that 6 % of this state are " outdooorsman" Wow, I wish it were true. 6 % of this state could not tell you the difference between a bobcat and a kittycat. Most send $50 to Peta or the hsus and call themselves defenders of wildlife. What a joke!

Joey,
You must be married and have no choice. I respect that. After many $$$ I have a choice and I choose freedom from Guns, Hunting and fishing controls. Women are a dime a dozen, not like trophy mulies!

Popeyoung said; What do we have, 200,000 hunters at the voting booth?

I wish you would at least do a little research before spouting off. To answer several of your jabs, you are so wrong, not even close, i'll say this and it's not my style to do so, "tell someone who cares"!

We have over 2 million sportsman buy fishing licenses every year, they vote. We have over 300,000. Sportsman buy hunting licenses every year, they vote. 77,000 hunters put in for the draw for Big Game hunting. 650,000 aplications for duck reservations on state owned reserves alone, they vote. Then you have those husbands or wives of hunters, grandparents or uncles that no longer hunt or fish. You have people in the industry that have no place to go, you have friends of friends, ranchers, farmers, Trap and target shooters, meat processors, motel owners, cafe's, sporting goods dealers, blue collar, white collar, on and on, way more than the 200,000 you think are at the voting booth and they all vote!!!

If you had a hard time selling a firearm, that's your fault. I know 20 people buying guns! You could have sold it right here in these pages if your price was fair. I don't know why i'm bothering to answer your questions as you clearly have your mind made up, you're quitting, short timer, and you want to justify leaving. Good, Go...See YA!

Oh, Wrong again! i''m not married. I live in a great place to hunt and fish all i want and am surrounded by open to hunt and fish public land. I could have left long ago but when young i traveled this country and some others. I love it where i'm at
and choose to be here.

Joey

Sage,
It's sad, we add the numbers up anyway You want and We still lose at the voting booth. The 2 million fishermen could not stop the ocean closure. I am at the docks twice a week now in Dana and 50 % of the " fishermen" still have not heard of the MLPA which is being jammed down their throats in 9 months. I didn't see them at the meetings all winter. Maybe no. cal if more hunter friendly but so. cal. could care less. I guess supply and demand. I will enjoy the 12 remaining weeks of ocean fishing off the oc. coast. Take lots of pictures so my 16 year old can show his kids the fish he caught when Calif. could fish the coast free and regulated. click on photo

Pope young. I don't mean to say that we have a majority but we do have a very large voting block.

Here where i live, we have a nice trout stream that runs thru the middle of town, winds it's way on down a mile or two before it dumps into a beautiful lake. I caught my first 3lb german brown on vacation here, on this very stream not 1/2 mile from where i now sit, back in the early 60's. Seems forever now, each summer the Fish and Game dept stocked the stream with 10-14 inch planter trout and the local kids would flock to river pole in hand, some more serious than others, but to a common goal, to bring home their trophy's to the family dinner table. If you're like me, you'll remember what it felt like to be the provider of the family meal when so young. Anyway, Fish and Game settled a lawsuit by agreeing not to stock this and many other streams, ponds, and lakes statewide. Is this right? Because the Stanford lawyer wannabe's got together over protection of some pollywog? One kid saved from drugs or worse because he became a avid trout fisherman, to me, is worth more that the few pollywogs the planted trout might eat. It's not right and it's a dam shame.

I used this as just one example of how the residents of this State, in many cases the long time residents, have got to be about sick and tired of the rapid and continuing eroding of our outdoor heritage. You have your gripe with the offshore fishing, i have my gripes, and Joe Blow has his with the amount of Mt Lions vs. the quantity of deer in his hunting woods. The average Outdoorsy dude, ladies included, is law abiding, for the most part, upstanding citizen and has accepted this taking away of what we once had, as a matter of being beyond our control. Well i don't intend to quit bitching, to quit making phone calls to those in power, or to drop my head and move to another state and give up on this one as a lost cause.

I mentioned about looking forward to the day when two million sportsmen descend on Sacramento in their outdoor garb. I've seen politicians react to groups of hundreds let alone thousands. I'm talking a couple million sign carrying, law abiding, voting citizens, all in one weekend with one common goal in mind! Let's have the TV cameras, the newspapers, the whole media want to know why we all took the time to protest the way in which our gun rights, outdoor hobbies, fish restocking programs, government owned lands, game animals management, and our rights to public access,... are all being taken away, step by step, day by day, slowly but surely, and we're here to protest because enough is enough and it's past time that we no longer act like sheep for the slaughter. We're pissed cause we're footing the bill and we as a group demand change!

Popeyoung, good luck to you on your relocation and i'm sorry if i offended you. Hope you have a great outdoor life where you are going but i'll say this, you may have a hard time finding more and better outdoor opportunities than you had right here in California. Me, i think it's worth trying to save. I'm staying, i'm speaking my mind to all those who'll listen, and i'm waiting for the day... as long as it's not during deer season :)

Joey

Did you know that the Stanford law students filed this suit as a class project?

They never gave a chit about them pollywogs.

It was all started to demonstrate the process of filing a suit against an established operation.

DFG just rolled over on it.

Nickman, I read up on the issues months ago when all this was coming down. Seems there was mention similar to what you're saying.
No, it doesn't surprise me at all.

I hate to say it because i've always been a Fish and Game supporter, still could be, but because of this, there is less hatchery expense and much less stocking...less of our fishing license moneys spent on these programs and more for the study of freaking eco sensitive pollywogs! In the long run the F&G saved spending much of our spent license moneys. Maybe that's why they "rolled over" on the stocking programs so willingly.
