Camcorder help!

So I'm about 20 years behind technology and have a VHS-C camcorder. With all the latest in SD, Flash, Harddrive, DVD, etc models--which is the best way to go??? The ease of the DVD makes the most sense to me, but everything I've read lately makes them seem almost absolete! I'm not looking for a high dollar set up, but I'd like something easy to use with a powerful zoom, any suggestions?

for basic camcorder use, I would go with Hard drive or flash. makes it super simple to transfer to your computer, then burn to dvd etc... DV tape is good as well, some people prefer it so they have a "hard copy" as a backup. but i just backup my files periodically onto DVD (as data) and it works about the same.

I recommend the canon HD camera. I have an HG10 its small and compact and works great.
