This was the third year I've hunted this unit and by far the most challenging. Lots of water, high temps, and a very scattered population. Anything of note was holed up in dark timber and so that's where we went!

We could hear this guy in that dark timber and spent a tedious three hours listening before getting a look. And as you can see the downed timber in the background it made for one of the more adventurous pack-outs in recent memory.

Excellent bull - congrats!!

Hate that deadfall for packing out a bull, but you gotta go where the elk are!!

Congrats on a great bull, have hoped to hunt that unit but the point creep keeps me one or two behind each year for the stick and string!

Nice bull! And yes, tough packing one out of there I'm sure.

Gotta ask though, a NR hunting this unit for the 3rd time? I haven't checked the draw odds, but I thought 61 was a tough to draw unit.

I"ve been buying landowner tags. I have 23 elk pts and am still not drawing it.
