co unit 86

i am looking to start scouting unit 86 for next years hunt season.i plan on doing some scouting in early aug.and hunting with black powder in sept.just looking for a starting point i am a lone diy i will be hunting out of the back of my truck trying to get back as far as my truck can get then hunting roughly a 5 mile radious from there.any info will help

Welcome wisco. What are you in pursuit of in the Sangre de cristo mountains. That unit is a strip of prime elk and deer habitat. During that time of year most animals will be high and in the strip of dark timber that runs from timberline to the base where it flatens out. Most of your game will be in the timber and up. Do you live close to that unit or are you traveling far?
