Must have been an unsuccessful one! :<)What kind of hunt did you do with them?
There are places where public land guided isn’t the worst idea. Western MT isn’t one of them unfortunately though. Pretty much an expensive horseback trip with a bow or rifle in your hand. I know dozens of guys that have done those trips and rarely if ever do they kill an elk. Cool country and a cool trip but not an elk hunt. I agree if I was gonna spend money on a guided elk hunt in MT it would either be on a LE tag or a private land general area. There are a whole bunch of bad outfitters near Trout Creek and Noxon, Wayne Hill is another. You can go take your rifle for a hike and not waste 3-4k in guide fees with some kid that has never hunted. You would be better off if you hunted a private ranch, I’m going guided ever, but hunting public land with an outfitter is pointless. You can do the same thing on your own. Sorry to hear about your experience.
Key words --- 10 to 12 years ago!! My how the landscape has changed for elk numbers since then. I live close to there and hunt with a friend who grew up there. Just seeing an elk in that country now is a task--- let alone killing a nice bull.Killed some nice bulls in the Trout Creek Noxon area with Elk Creek Outfitting. Was 10-12 years ago contact Brent Fitchett he will take care of you.
