My brother and I both drew Unit 25/26 mule deer tags in CO for Archery this year. I had a tag in there a few years ago, but due to some lack of preparation, it was a short hunt.
I've been doing my research, picking up where I left off in 2019, currently focusing on unit 26 for plan A. Looking at harvest statistics, they are showing that only 7 doe were killed in 2019 collectively between units 25 and 26, and no bucks. The elk statistics aren't much better.
If this is such a huge wilderness area, with all that high country, why are no deer (or elk, rather) being taken out of this area in archery season? I've been in there, so I know it's a tough hunt, but is it a lack of animals, poor reporting on the harvest statistics, or both?
