Gila River Diversion is real...

http://www.monstermuleys.info/photos/user_photos3/9183draftfinaldiversionandstorageper91.jpg

New Mexico Interstate Stream Commission approved a Joint Powers Agreement on June 9 to form the New Mexico Central Arizona Project Entity to take responsibility for the Gila River diversion project as a part of the 2004 Federal Arizona Water Settlement Act. Several counties have been asked to join the group.

Yesterday Silver City Council denied to be part of the group until more information could be provided and today Luna County Commission will vote this afternoon at 6pm. Grant County Commission will vote on the 25th and Deming City Council will vote on Friday the 26th.

Not only will this be economically not feasable, but environmentally, a poor decision based on current information.

The over flow of this river drains out into the basin that has created riparian habitats for several federal and state endangered species. This isn't even including the environmental impact for the pipeline needed to get that water from the Cliff area all the way to Deming or Las Cruces.

The rewards definitley DO NOT out weigh the effort and cost to the communties and our environment, by a country mile.

Thank you for posting this... There will also be a vote to join the JPA in Silver on Thurs Morning at the City Offices...

BTW - just got the most recent diversion locations and most of the include the Turkey Creek Rec area.. It will be flatted so then can add a water infiltration system... It was also confirmed that no matter where the hold ponds are located there will be no fishing and the area will be fenced off because there will be a plastic liner..

Such BS when we can leave it alone and take the 14k ac ft yr out of the the Colorado from EXISTING INFRASTRUCTURE upstream, aka SanJuan/Chama pipeline. Just switch were we get it from ,as source.
They take out 14k less/yr from Colorado and use whatever they want of Gila once it gets there.

Leave the Gila alone and divert the 14k ac ft yr allotment out of the EXISTING DIVERSION on the SJ/Chama.
AZ just takes 14k from Colorado river allotment and gets whatever makes it in the Gila.
We dodge another Gov./Big business boondoggle....

I have a better solution. No on all diversions! This is getting ridiculous in all Western States.

Here is the topo of the possible diversion locations... because of cost and yield 2-2A and 3 are the only really possible locations..
