Cow Elk help

My 12 year old has a late season Cow elk tag (Dec 1-Dec 31) for the Avintaquin canyon area. I was hoping someone could tell me how the snow levels are and where they might be seeing some. I have hunted there in the past, but have not been down there this year. We head out on Sat for a day trip. Thanks in advance

What snow levels? Sorry to tell you that there aint no snow right now. There might be a skiff over Indian pass and that area but not enough to move the elk out. We are supposed to get a storm this weekend so it may improve your odds but all the guys I know who have cow tags are really struggling right now. I don't think it's about finding the elk. It's more like finding a cow elk in a spot you don't have to pack her out a mile. Good luck. Look for weather this weekend to help you out.
