cow elk unit 1 junior hunt

My daughter drew unit 1 cow elk. Sounds like it should be a pretty fun hunt, she is excited. Have been on the unit before, but if anyone has anyone incite on the where the cows will be in october, it would be much appreciated. Thanks.

I was at big lake last weekend. Caught a lot of fish, saw a few hundred elk, but in october I assume they change what they are doing a bit.

toole, try around Sierra Blanca "lake", area just to the south and west of the pond. If you take FR 249 east towards Sierra Blanca from Big Lake anything North of FR249 around Sierra Blanca and even before getting to the pond is great during the Oct hunt. Try early morning and late afternoon. Remember that FR249 is the border between Units 1 and 27. Good Luck

Try Mexican Hay Lake, get there 45 minutes before daylight, the elk will travel up into the surrounding mountains within the first half hour of sunlight.

there are so many elk in that unit, that unit is big, you could be able to pick a spot on the map and go, the problem with the areas mentioned before is that everybody knows about them, send me an email and i can give you a couple ideas,,,, [email protected]

That is one of the best (in my opinion the best) elk units in the state. She shouldn't have any problem harvesting her cow. I spend alot of time in that unit. Heck she might not even have to leave camp.
