Does anyone know what DSC New Mexico does (besides host raffles)? They have never gone to a game commission meeting, they have never been present at the legislature. They weren't there fighting coyote trapping or coyote contests (one of the only sporting groups that fought this was New Mexico Council of Outfitters and Guides). They weren't there to fight the gun bills (NRA and NMCOG were the only groups fighting this).

I have calculated that they will make around $486,000 on the raffles that they have held just this year. That doesn't even count the Gala they host and other events and membership. I just have not heard of anything they have ever done. Where is all this money going? Someone is benefitting, but is it sportsman???

Ya I hear you next time you look at a guy with a cowboy hat is he a cowboy is he an American or is he just soaking the system liberal scum next time you look at a gun dealer or some body that’s allowed to sell firearms are they an American do they back the flag do they follow the truth when you see that knucklehead priest does he actually know the Bible he is there to deceive with lies when you see a man with kids did he just father them or is he a father the devil is a deceiver he is out to make people believe all this crap that’s going on the news, telling kids they they can be another sex , biden the lords people win in the end them they hate America they hate god

Aww TLDR ... @Jarhead is just saying there's lots of liars and hypocrites out there, and may agree that Dallas Safari Club is too.

It's pretty simple though, if there's no evidence of advocacy then don't donate to DSC expecting advocacy. Just spend your casino budget with them and expect to loose the raffle.

You raise a very good point here. I always looked at that group as a bunch of wealthy hunters and different than conservation groups. That is just my opinion. I will do some research now to see if my opinion is way off or not.

Never researched them but like safari club I think they do a lot for hunting in the bigger national arena. I don’t know them to do anything in NM political. They first came around this state when NM game and fish needed an organization to broker their gov type tags. Is there even a local
Chapter in NM?

Yes there is a NM chapter. I know that DSC nationally helps with national issues, but the NM chapter doesn't really seem to do anything. Maybe all the NM chapter money goes to the national efforts.

Hello Everyone

I am here to address this post from live4muleys. I work with DSC New Mexico and we have worked hard over the past several years to gain the confidence in our members who might consider supporting our organization. With that being said, we agree our communication of what our organization is all about and what we have done the past several years has been pretty lack luster. We are currently working on getting out all the information posted to our website of all the contributions and support that DSC New Mexico has given in the past several years. This information is now up on our website and future emails about those contributions will be arriving to all our member’s emails in the future.

We are fortunate to have a former Game Commissioner on our side and during his time as Commissioner created many contacts in NMDGF as well as in the Legislature. With his contacts in the NMDGF and the Legislature, he is able to give them a call and have a personal conversation with them about certain issues. That is why you have not seen anyone at the Legislature. When you have contacts sometimes it is better to call those individuals personally, they tend to give you their attention and listen a little better than on the floor.

We agree we needed to have a bigger presence especially at the Game Commission meetings. You will see a DSC New Mexico representative at each and every Game Commission meeting in the future, whether it be in person or via the internet. We will have prepared statements about topics at that particular meeting. The New Mexico Council of Outfitters and Guides are an organization that DSC New Mexico works with and have had discussions about certain issues with them including the trapping ban and coyote contests. We think that they were vigilant and spoke and fought those issues for all New Mexicans and their organizations including DSC New Mexico very well. Although it was probably futile at the time because they banned them anyway. Which we knew was basically going to happen before all public comments were heard because of the Legislative contacts that our former Game Commissioner had already contacted and created in the past. We were very limited in manpower and resources at that time. We were a young chapter of the Dallas Safari Club trying to get our feet on the ground.

Dallas Safari Club and the NRA work hand in hand on the National level. We were ecstatic to know that the biggest 2nd Amendment/Firearm Organization in the Nation was fighting for our rights here in New Mexico. Again, through contacts in the Legislature we voiced our concerns and thoughts to those individuals. In our current New Mexico Government, it was well known that some of those bills were going to pass no matter what. We voiced our concerns through those contacts that had to vote on the bills personally and some of the bills passed but not all of them. I’d like to think maybe we had something to do with swaying a vote or two or three for those bills not to pass.

We have done a few Giveaways prior to 2023, but nothing like in 2023. We are fortunate to have great support and Outfitters that are willing to help DSC New Mexico with some great discounts for some of these hunts that we giveaway. Unless you have really worked with a nonprofit organization and know how they acquire most of these hunts, you might not understand that not all of these hunts are fully donated. As a matter of fact, most of them DSC New Mexico has to pay for, most at a discount. So, there is a cost associated with every giveaway we have done this year. None of the hunts that were given away this year were fully donated nor did every giveaway sell out. There is also the cost of those pesky credit card fees that are associated with every transaction. Another expense is the email company at $650 a month. Our email list is pretty big with members from all over the Nation.

Due to several different factors the $486,000 that live4muleys mentions is not an accurate amount of dollars that DSC New Mexico actually gets to put in the bank. That figure is calculated out to that amount if every single entry was at the full price of contribution for 1 entry. Most of our entry contributions are gained through our entry bundles, which lowers the amount of each entry. It is hard to predict exactly how much each giveaway will make, due to these different scenarios.

Each person that participates in our giveaways, then becomes a DSC New Mexico Trailhead Member. If you look on our website, we do not have a charged membership fee. The membership comes with your support to DSC New Mexico. You can also visit our website and become a Trailhead Member for free.

The Gala does do well Thanks to all our Sponsors and Members that attend the Gala. But there is a cost to do a Gala like DSC New Mexico’s. Remember not all hunts are fully donated and most raffle items have to be purchased. That doesn’t include the cost of the banquet hall and catering. This year we charged $100 per single entry or $175 dollars per couple to attend the Gala. We make $1 on each single entry to better understand what it costs per meal are and that does not include the room and all the audio-visual stuff needed to put on the Gala. We are working on a plan to hopefully get better discounts and more fully donated hunts and raffle items. Hopefully this works out.

Last, we would like to say Thank You for having concern about what DSC New Mexico is doing. You wouldn’t be right if you don’t question some stuff in life. We agree we need a better presence in New Mexico. We are working on that, and you will see more of us in 2024 that is for sure. We are currently in talks with a couple of individuals at the National Forest Service about future New Mexico wildlife/habitat restoration projects where DSC New Mexico has committed to making a substantial contribution to make that happen.

Just out of curiosity, it sounds like NMSFW under another name?
Dallas Safari Club New Mexico is NOT sportsmen for fish and wildlife NM. You can do your research and find ALL the DSC Chapters across the country on the DSC website. www.biggame.org.

It is my understanding that the main SFW in Utah did not support those guys in New Mexico and didn't do much of anything to help them grow. So all of those SFW chapters across the country dissolved and now there is only Utah.

DSC has put together a stellar Chapter program and provides huge support and the catalyst to get donations. That's the reason you will see a ton of hunts in the live and online auctions as well as the giveaways. We are growing and gaining support, which will allow you folks to see DSC New Mexico doing great things in New Mexico in the future and helping DSC Main on the National and International level.

Definitely not NMSFW rebranded. DSC and NRA are IMO the biggest national voices. While no organization is perfect, they can do almost infinitely more than small unorganized local organizations when it comes to supporting hunting and firearms nationally.

Never researched them but like safari club I think they do a lot for hunting in the bigger national arena. I don’t know them to do anything in NM political. They first came around this state when NM game and fish needed an organization to broker their gov type tags. Is there even a local

Dallas Safari Club New Mexico or Dallas Safari Club main has never brokered any Gov. type tags for the NMDGF. We hosted the annual NMDGF Banquet 1 time back in 2018. But that is the extent of helping the NMDGF sell any tags.

I think for the amount of time this organization has been in NM they have made strides, but like Tiger313 said this is basically a new operation in NM and the membership is free so Join up and be a voice in what initiatives should be a priority. I'm sure they would love to have you. And lastly they do raffle some really sweet hunts.

DSC, SCI, and NRA do absolutely the most for national gun rights and hunter rights. Big issues for me!! RMEF protects elk habit, which is also very important. SFW, NMSFW, and/or hunters expo in Utah are all about auctioning western state public tags to raise money for game and fish departments. I don’t care for the SFW organizations because the auction tags significantly (in some cases) reduce the number of already very tough to draw public tags. But it’s super fun to watch the auctions. Haha

Thanks for reaching out. I was just coming on here to let everyone know that that last email I received had a link to contributions that DSCNM had made. I was glad to see that and I went and took a look at it yesterday. I was just going to give everyone else a heads up that they did include that on their website now and we can see what they have done. Thanks.

Thanks for posting my Brother it helps explaining things so people can go and look up what is or isnt happening with your Organization. There’s so many times where my friends are talking about something that they heard from someone else etc etc and are not true. Like SFW the people there have an Organization that’s called Hunts for the Brave which if you have time check it out. I try to donate a C-Note once a year it’s a great cause.
