Actually it seems to be slowing down some. I follow it daily and the numbers are leveling. Those numbers for the dead are cumulative, and the reality is, many of those dying were pre-existing and were/are on their death beds. In many cases this is just speeding up the inevitable. But you're right the death toll is up today.

Sorry but all these people saying that most of the people dying with pre-existing conditions or on their deathbed or just saying that to make themselves feel better. I’ve got news for you just because you have pre-existing conditions does not mean you’re dying. Many of these people would have lived years if not many years with their current condition. Now if you’re talking about people who are nursing homes yes their time is very limited. For example I would be classified as a person with 2 underlying conditions neither of which will kill me on their own. I’m 53 years old and could possibly live another 30 years with the conditions I have but if I were to get the virus and it killed me and I would be classified a person with underlying conditions. But in reality the underlying conditions make the person unable to fight of the CV like a otherwise “healthy” person.

I understand that and that's why I said: "many of those dying are pre-existing and were/are on their death beds". I was pointing out it was an inflated figure because it is lethal to this group of people, and expeditiously sped up death. Another cause is influenza, and this is what the CDC says in regards to that:
"This season CDC estimates that, as of mid-March, between 29,000 and 59,000 have died due to influenza illnesses."

Your somewhat right.

But we have millions of cancer patients on chemo who have compromised immunity. Millions others with immunity disorders.

We have NEVER shut down the country for those folks.

When dad was doing chemo he isolated himself. If I sneezed I'd stay away from the house.

It's simple minded to pretend we have one good choice and one bad choice. We have one bad choice and another bad choice.

Businesses, companies, stores, etc have been extremely responsible, extremely understanding.

The track we are on we are asking them to commit suicide financially. Your asking kids to limit their educations. Your adking the country to weaken itself so badly that it retrears from the world stage.

(By you I mean society, not you personally)

The models said 2 million deaths. We slammed the door on the economy.

Now it's 60k projected.

Your now into flu territory

Yes. If we hadn't ........it would be worse.

100% correct.

But we did. It was never to be at zero cases or zero deaths. It was to keep the medical system from collapsing.

Does it mean 70k in a football stadium? No.

But can you open buisness capable of maintaining social distances ?

At some point we ate going to have to allow "elective" procedures. Medical or dental.

Bad choice vs bad choice.

As we see the toll of the collapsing. Economy, it's becoming more clear one choice is becoming more obvious. This ain't sustainable

Today is April 8th and just today our county came out with a list of businesses that are shut down by order of the health department. Not an option to be open until further notice. Who dreamed up the list is unknown.

We're in it for the long haul.

Our local hospitals are furloughing employees because we have 3 COVID-19 patients and no elective procedures are being allowed.

so.....according to those numbers there are 374,600 sick people that haven't recovered or died yet??

C'Mon Homer...you know the deal. Those numbers aren't actually supposed to be added up to be made sense of. It's the shear "numbers" that are important...regardless of if they add up. Like....100,000 deaths. No death is unimportant but the numbers they previously calculated couldn't have even been known due to the "unknown" virus. They were guessing...

Floral shops?

There you go. A florist can't figure a way to social distance?

This is the complete jackazzery of what's going on.

The health department sitting around and instead trying desperately to find a way to keep buisness open, sits around dreaming of bullchit.

It's almost as if shutting down doesn't affect them?

Wtf is a dry goods store?

You gonna get hard tack, and flour to put in the horse drawn?

Some “elective” surgeries seem necessary. Not like there getting a boob job.

So you'd rather have someone recovering from a hip replacement surgery that could be postponed several months occupying a hospital bed instead of a critically ill patient with COVID 19 ? Hospitals and health care facilities are taking a worst case scenario approach and they have to. What if they allowed all of those elective surgeries and there was a surge of cases with no where to go. What if one of those elective surgery patients was exposed in the hospital and then died ? There would be no end to the "I told you so" wailing. The fact is there are no easy answers and there are millions of back seat drivers and conspiracy theorists. My prayer is that the people who say we've over -reacted to this can say "I told you so". Even though the "over -reaction" is likely why the result was better than anticipated.

"Elective surgery or elective procedure (from the Latin eligere, meaning to choose) is surgery that is scheduled in advance because it does not involve a medical emergency".

I could understand in places getting hit hard.
My best friends sister is a nurse in a outpatient surgery department and she said they are sitting around not doing anything. But I could see how they don’t want to bring people in who could possibly be positive and infect more people.

I keep hearing about a shortage of PPE. Could that possibly have anything to do with no elective surgery? Trying to save what they have for those that need it?

I know, but seriously, when was the last time you went to the dry goods store?

You realize there are thousands and thousands of people who die in the hospital from diseases they xatch while in the hospital, right?

We can play what if until the cows come home.

That's why we have DATA. And in Utah, the data doesn't support the it.
