I have been going for the last seven years. last year the whitetail got hit in 21, with the bigger bucks and does getting the worst of it. Still a lot of deer and the mule deer were not affected. This year should be excellent as the mule deer are in good shape.
Okay, I've now got the Eagle Butte whitetail tag in my pocket. Looks like central SD has been getting decent rain so far. Anyone have an opinion on the health of the herd?
Reports from a landowner near Mission on the Rosebud Res that they found 17 dead bucks within the last couple of weeks just on their piece (2500) acres. Sounds like South Central got hit hard as of recently with an outbreak of Blue Tongue.....Really sucks, maybe somebody can confirm this if they have been in that portion of the state recently?
The deer herd is fine in central SD but there are now 3 less bucks. The rut was just turning on hot when we left on 11/12. By far the highlight was my buddy Steve and this dandy. Eleven total points, heavy and a huge body.
