You may very well need another "tube" if you've got that many rounds down it!
You can get quality barrels which will be very accurate and keep fouling to a minimum but you'll pay almost $400 and wait 6+ months to get it. Then you'll have gunsmith costs on top of that. Add the cost of a new cleaning rod and brushes and new dies and the price escalates in a hurry when we switch to a new cartridge.
I love new toys but we have to keep the cost and wait in mind when we add a new toy to our stable of rifles. Speaking of toy, the 17 is just that. It's a toy and has limited advantages over a good .224 caliber.
But who am I to tell a guy not to build one? Not everything I do make sense!!!!
