As promised, here's the almost-final draft of the 2011 Utah Big Game Field Regulations. Please take a look and let me know if you have questions or if you spot anything that looks incorrect. We have a brief window of time to fix any problems and appreciate the help of anyone who's willing to read through it. Thanks!

On page 31 there is a sentence/Paragraph missing:

"Any TARD/TARDS on a Wheeler/Wheelers caught in a CLOSED Area/Unit/Primitive will be Fined 1,000,000.00 & will be throwed in the Slammer for a Minimum of 75 years, they will Forfeit there Wheeler/Guns/Truck/Optics/Spouse/Spouses,they will lose their Hunting Rights for Eternity in every State"!

For GAWDS Sakes Guys,We Got Kids on this Site,Some of them are 65 years Old!:D

I don't care if they're big or small!
If they throw lead I like em all!
:p

Amy I read it twice and had to scatch my head a few times but in the end it look really good, some of the dates through me off. Joe

yeah, minimum arrow weight should be 400 grains, especially for elk.

There will not be a printed Antlerless guidebook this year. Everything you'll need in order to apply (dates, maps, hunt tables, boundaries, etc.) will be on the DWR website by May 24. That will be about a week before the application opens on June 1. I'll post a follow-up message/link here as soon as the Antlerless information and resources are available. You can read more about it in the Field Regs guidebook article on page 3, "Where's my Antlerless Guidebook?" :)

That seems a like a lighter punishment than I've seen you suggest in other posts, Bess. You might be mellowing out with all this nice spring weather! ;-)

Thanks for taking the time to read through it, Joe. We've been trying to make the guidebooks easier to read and understand, but we still have some work to do in a few places. Thanks again!

Right now, the rule has it as 300 grains, but if you want to suggest/discuss a possible rule change, visit your local Division office and talk to the biologists and law-enforcement officers. Thanks for taking the time to review.

My honest opinion,
There should be a greater division between species sections, then clear divisions between the individual hunts under that species. You have Sheep, Goats, and Antlerless Deer all on the same page.

A minimal description of the LE hunts under each species but no info explaining the process or where to get that info. Seasons? tag numbers? how to apply?
"2011 Season dates" has no mention of LE dates or when they will be available.

"general archery Buck Deer"....
"If you obtained a general archery buck deer
permit, you may use archery equipment to take
one buck deer in an open general hunting unit."

How do I get the permit?
I see in a section above that some may be remaining "after the drawing".
When is the drawing? what do I need and how do I go about it?

Conversely, The CWMU section seems to be the most informative in the book. Most everything is right there.

I'm sure you weren't looking for someone to suggest a complete rewite but I would sure add more info and organize it differently.

Well Amy!

Everybody says I'm getting a Hell of alot Older and a Tiny bit Nicer!:D

Thanks for following up, WapitiBob. Honest opinions are definitely welcome, as are fresh perspectives!

Nearly all the items you noted as missing are actually in our 2011 Big Game Application Guidebook or on the DWR website (or will be part of the 2011 Antlerless information we post to the Web on May 24).

This is the first year we've split the guidebooks, and we're still figuring a few things out. I think it's a very good idea to add an information box or an article that lets people know about the other guidebook and some of the other information you mentioned. We can't just assume that everyone will have seen the first booklet. I'm part of the team that puts the guidebooks together, and I'll mention your post when we meet next week.

As for cramming the different species sections together, that's mostly a matter of cost. The book is put together in four-page increments, each of which costs about $4,000 (so, about $1,000 per page). If we cut to a new page for every species (or add a lot more space/design elements), it would certainly look nicer, but it would cost a lot more.

Thanks again for sharing your thoughts on the field regulations ? I hope my explanations helped a bit.

Amy,

Can you pass on that this wait to find out if we drew is too long. Either we need to put in later or speed the draws up...

The wait is killing us all. :)

The only thing I noticed was the footer on the maps was upside down. I am a printer so I notice dumb stuff like that but it is normally too late because it is on the press.
