I put the northern as a third choice and drew it. I have never hunted it before, so I was hoping someone could give some advise on where to start. I have been out looking around, but seems like a lot of the good areas seem to be private. I would be grateful for any help anyone could provide. PM me if you'd prefer.
Thanks,
Jessica

The Northern area is a big area, any specific place you would like to hunt? Here are a few places to start
-Raft river mountains
-Cache National forest
-Ummmmm, well the rest is mostly private.

If you would like to hunt these areas, let me know and I may be able to lead you in the direction of a two point.

i hunt this area religiously for elk and deer. the only thing i can say is stay high and use your binos. out west there is some good areas, sage brush and cedars, like it was mentioned the raft river mountains is a good area. you can pm me, i go up every weekend and about twice during the week.

There are many areas that hold deer in the north, but like you have seen, mostly private property. The Uinta NF is a good choice along Mirror Lake HWY. Monte Cristo has some good areas if you are willing to get off your quad and work a little. Logan Canyon is another good bet but you still must get off you machine and hike a little. There are numerous state lands also within 30 miles of Ogden that hold plenty of deer. I can give you some specifics if you want. Shoot me a pm if you are interested.

I'm in the same boat, drew a buck/bull combo on the 3rd choice. I'm also finding all the good spots are private. My priority is Elk, if you hear any tips on elk let me know and all do the same. I have some friends in SLC doing some research. When are you planning on going?

PM sent lvelk.

LOL... I'm sorry, I just can't figure why anyone would put northern as a 3rd choice, or 8th choice for that matter...
I'm not tryin to be rude. If you have money you may find some land owner who can sell you a trespass tag, its your best bet.
Private land has land locked thousands of acres of public land in the north. Everyone, their dog, and their dogs chew toy heads up Logan Canyon... The west mountains hold some great deer, but you have to find a way through a lot of private land to get to public, but I know it is possible because I have friends who do it. (They keep their route a secret though.) That is your best bet for a good buck. Good luck finding your way through... And good luck on your hunt.
P.S. If you want a beautiful hunt no matter the outcome, Henry's Fork is beautiful in the fall and you can take some great pictures. Sometimes bucks from Wyoming cross the border into Utah... Then they jump right back across to safety. It's like HopScotch for them I imagine. But at least it will be beautiful...

Yea I figured that out. First tag in Utah, live and learn. Trying to keep a positive attitude about it though, a week in the woods is way better than a week behind the desk.

There are some good Bucks up North, like everybody said, you have got to walk your arse off if you want to get away from the masses. I took this guy last year in a remote part of a heavily hunted area. I plan on shooting another one like him this year.

Not my biggest, but a solid 165 Deer.
