A friend of mine got possession of a nice set of moose antlers from her Grandfather and wants them put on a plaque. However, the hair was never removed from the skull plate and is very much dried on and tough. What is the best method for removing this from the skull plate? It has probably been on there for 30 years at aleast.

Soak it in warm water for a bit and it will soften up and pull off, or find someone with beetles, I do have them but Im sure someone in Idaho would do it for cheaper than shipping costs. If not pm me and we can talk.

If you can fit the skull plate into a pot then give it a soft boil with water and baking soda. The baking soda mixture will really soften the flesh and then you can get under it with a flathead screwdriver and some plyers and pry it off.
