eagle killing a deer

I worked for a rancher one summer who witnessed a golden eagle killing a yearling antelope buck. I don't expect its common for them to kill game that large, but young of the year (fawns) probably pay a price.

I've seen eagles kill antelope three times. It's not pretty. I've also run across eagles eating dead deer with coyotes and ravens fighting to get in on the action. Those eagles are athletes. They kill quite a few critters and not just rabbits.

Old Elmer Keith had a strong dislike for eagles and large hawks due to him seeing them killing young bighorn sheep and Dall sheep. I would not be surprised if a few of those eagles did not meet their demize with one of Keith's 44 mag bullets in their hide.
