Anybody have much experience with the camping up that way? Does it fill up on the weekends?

I'd like to take the family up for a camping/scouting trip but I hope to sell it to the wife as more of a camping trip with a nice hike. :)

I was there late Aug last year over the weekend and it was not to bad. There are several campgrounds in the area as well. I stayed at Coopers on the river, the lake was just a few minutes away.

I was up there a couple weekends ago and it wasn't very full. We stayed right on the lake in the Grassy Point campground. According to the camp host it hasn't been very busy lately

Heron lake is closeby as well. Nice country, You will enjoy it. Cabins at Chama with fishing, site seeing, train ride lots for the wife to do depending on her likes etc.
