Elk muzzle unit 76

LAST EDITED ON Jun-14-11 AT 05:47PM (MST)[p]Burned 14 points to get this tag and will be the only time in my life I will be able to hunt this unit. Have been looking forward to it for sometime. Back in the day when Rocketman and dog where here, got me excited about this area. Wish he was still around to pick his brain. I know lots of these elk hang high, and move out when the rifle hunt starts. Any tips or pointers from those who are familar would be appriciated. I enjoy hunting with horses so I will be bringing them with me. Don't mind travelling light in the back country for a day or two with a comfortable truck/wall tent camp back at the road. I have hunted deer in units 70, 61, 62, and 55 if you need some info on those areas. Thanks

New too this, been looking at sight for three years, you caught my attn. I've hunted 76 for over ten years, third and fourth season, I think we could help each other, I'm hunting 62 this year. I don't know how to send PM,we need to connect w/o the world involved!

My Dad now has 14 PP and is holding out for this tag. I think it will be at least be another 4-5 years before he has a shot at it. I bow hunted the unit in 2006 and had a good hunt. I would say anywhere on the west/northwest side of the unit are good bets. Also don't think you need to be above timberline to get into the elk. There are alot of elk in the timber as well. Good luck should be a fun hunt!
