Fake conservatives

So a friend of mine is the director of the local senior citizens center. Earlier this month one of our US Senators, a democrat, came to tour the facility and talk about the services provided and what their needs are. As part of that the director was asked to offer patrons the chance to meet the senator and have a short visit. The senator wanted to hear from her constituency and let them know she is available to help.

Only a handful of seniors opted to hang around until the senator arrived. When they met the senator they immediately began verbally attacking her yelling questions. No niceties. No respectful handshakes. No thank you for coming. They began firing questions like "are you trying to impeach Trump" and "are you trying to take away our guns", calling her a liberal. The Senator did the best she could under the circumstances and finally the director had to end the meet and greet.

Now, I know several of the people who were there. They are vocal-local tea party types. I also know they are regulars at the senior center and I am told they eat lunch there nearly every day. The cost for lunch is a $3 suggested donation for over 60 years of age but it's not required if the person feels they cannot afford it. The meal program is heavily subsidized as it is everywhere. It's a brand new 5 million dollar building built by local governments and grants.

I think those people should be ashamed of themselves in so many ways. First of all. it doesn't hurt to show a little respect. You can disagree with the senators politics but when she's there to see if she can help it's wrong to be rude. Secondly, how do these people reconcile in their mind the notion that THEY are the conservatives when they are bellied up to the trough every day eating the nearly free lunch.

This is the world we live in now.

Opponent? How are they opponents? As we are constantly reminded on this forum, their candidate lost. Get over it. How am I being a hypocrite? Because I criticize Trump ON THE INTERNET? I have met many elected and appointed officials from both sides of the aisle in person. Even if I disagree with their politics I am always polite and respectful. It's what one should be. Even if I met Trump I would at least be civil and respectful. We should be that much no matter who we meet.

What makes me a socialist supporter? You know nothing about me.

I know several senior citizens who have very strong beliefs about this. They stand by their convictions and choose to not utilize these services because they feel exactly as you have stated. These people who the OP was about choose to use those services every day and then b!tch about it.

I'm sure I could come up with many examples of liberal thinkers who complain about the government while taking advantage of all the so-called socialist perks their taxes go to. And they might be just as rude as these people were.

That is more the point of my post. The world we live in doesn't know how to be respectful to anyone any more. People are so polarized and many of them either have no idea why or they excuse themselves from their stated convictions.

It's a cold hard world out there for a politician. Sad.

The last Republican congressman we had made the mistake of showing himself in public at a meeting to discuss Obamacare. People were so ugly the police had to be called in and the meeting never got started.

I took advantage of the Senior Resource Center this year with a discount cord of firewood. People donate logs and inmates cut it up. It was supposed to be 16-18" long. Most of my cord of wood was 8-10". I brought it in the hose in a bucket. It worked out fine but I probably won't do it again....lol

First of all I never claimed to be a conservative. As I've said many times, I'm a middle of the road moderate. I support some conservative issues but I'm not blind to other viewpoints. I pay more attention to what the issue is than whether or not it is R or D. If being a conservative means being like you then that's a hard pass.

What do you mean by "supporting"? Again, I look at the issue. If we can agree on the issue or if I can help educate someone on my point of view on the issue, I will work with them on that issue. If we are too far apart on an issue then not. Is that supporting? Or is that just common sense?

I have not hunted in CA. for several years. The vast majority of my hunting have been out of state. Heck I even paid for a 3 day fishing license in your state this month while fishing at Pyramid lake for cut throat trout. Fishing was good.
As for being a sad hateful little man, I know many persons that would take offense at you for even saying that and that does not include my family members.

Go ahead and keep supporting the Democrat party. That party that tries to silence any opposition. Pelosi and her liberal party members have issued a threat to any company that takes on a new comer candidate running against any incumbent Democrat that they will be blackballed by the Democrat party and never get any future business. Oh wait a minute, that was what the Democrats did to the Congress woman from Louisiana that went against Obama and his stopping the pipeline that would have made thousands of jobs for the people in Louisiana. Why would you buy a NEVADA fishing license to fish Pyramid? You only need a Tribal permit to fish there. Are you trying to BS me? Oh and not a single cent of that permit goes toward Pittman Robertson funding. So you dont buy a license in California. Probably anywhere else either. Because if you're not getting something out of it why would you buy a license and fund some wildlife management.

But I digress... I'm sure Ted Kennedy, Jane Fonda, Harry Reid and your own former Senator Tunny would be so pleased to get that conservative money of yours. Afterall Reid and his corrupt justice department henchmen made it his lifes passion to screw the farmers of the Newlands reclamation project out of their water to divert to Pyramid Lake. He used that tribe like a rented mule to further his career. In the mid 1970s Jane and Ted and Tunney stood on the bridge at Nixon and effectively declared war on those farmers saying they were stealing water from the tribe, proclaiming it would only take a stroke of a pen to restore Pyramid Lake. I'm glad you finally stood up and shared your allegiance to Reid and his friends. You see, I never voted for Reid and have never spent a dime fishing at Pyramid. Save your finger pointing for yourself.
