After spending all day watching a couple of my favorite bucks last January I realized it was getting late and decided I should probably head for home. On my way out I figured I would stop and try to get a couple pictures of a good buck I had seen earlier that day. When I saw the buck earlier he was bedded in the sage brush so I couldn't really get any good pictures. It was shedding time and I wanted to check him once more before I headed out. As I pulled up I could see the buck was still bedded in the same place as he had been earlier that day. I took a picture of the bedded buck and watched him for a bit. After 10 or 15 minutes he finally stood up. I figured I had plenty of room for more pictures on the digital camera so I snapped away not knowing what was about to happen. The picture that shows the buck ready to jump the fence is when things got a little weird. He actually didn't end up jumping that time. He acted as if he was going to jump 5 or 6 times. Between each time he would back away from the fence and think about it for a second. I couldn't figure out what the deal was. Imagine my surprise when he finally decided to jump the fence and one side plopped on the ground! I had to force myself to sit tight and take that last picture. Out of excitement I almost jumped out of the truck and missed getting the last one. I am thinking maybe the buck knew his head gear was getting loose and didn't want to jerk them off by jumping? Who knows for sure? The last picture of him with only one side is a little rough. It was getting pretty dark by the time he finally jumped the fence but the pictures still turned out ok. Pretty lucky huh! Talk about being in the right place at the right time. I hope you enjoy the pictures.
