Just looking for any info on the area anyone is willing to offer. We have the late southern region tag and I think this is the area we're looking to hunt unless anyone has a better idea or is will to offer a better oppertunity. Also we have never hunted turkeys before so will decoys and calls still be effective in May or will the turkeys become call shy? Any general info about hunting them this late in the season would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Late season can still be good. The hens are nesting and head to thier nests about mid morning, leaving the gobblers alone and still searching for a receptive hen. I would concentrate on the merriams units up higher. Since the merriams live up close to the snow, they tend to rut a little later than the rios I think. They will be back up where you would see them in the summer by May. I have heard them gobbling still in mid June.

Good luck
