Finally, A Nice One

I finally got a decent one. He's a 4 X 5 or technically a 5 X 5.
I had heard there were some nice bucks at the back of the private property I was hunting. I have hunted this property for about ten years and had seen some decent ones back there. The deer would bed in the sage to the N and W and come out onto the CRP land where I was hunting just before sundown. I made it a point to be there hidden then. Others in my party, all family members, had filled two doe tags each except for two or them and I had all ready heard shots fm their way. I was sitting on my stool in a clump of high sage. I started to stand up slowly to get a better look and saw a deer running directly toward me. The deer spooked away and ran over a small ridge. I started to stalk after him when he topped. When I approached the top of my side of the ridge, I laid down on my side. Placing the camo stool in front of me I would move about a foot at a time until I eased over to where I could see. I quickly forgot about the buck I was stalking when I saw this one. I slowly raised up my rifle and laid it across the stool to steady my aim but couldn't see the buck thru the grass. I quickly sat up, wrapped my arm twice thru the sling and fired at 150 yards. He dropped like a ton of bricks. My handloaded 30'06 165 grain Sierra Game King spitzer boattail had done its job. I field dressed him and marked some high sage with marking tape and walked the mile back to camp under the light of the full moon. Four of us took my two wheeled game cart and went back that night to get him. I'm debating whether to get a conventional mount or a European mount. And who knows, the Lord has been good to me this season: an antelope buck with my bow, a small moose and now this buck. I'm prob coming to W TN next week and might even harvest a deer or two there.
Thanks for listening to all this!! Ray
