Finally, help for the plateau

Looks like the UDWR finally figured out the antelope population on the plateau is hurting. They hammered the herd for too long and destroyed the quality of the hunt. The proposed any weapon permit numbers for this years hunt have gone from 254 permits in 2010 to 39 permits in 2011.

Last fall I heard they sent out notification of an emergency closures on the unit. Not sure or the specifics regarding the closure. Hopefully in a few year the quality will come back.

The problem is, this is the UDWR at its finest. We can't monitor the herd from year to year, it takes an "emergency closure" because they can't just monitor the herd. My question for the DWR is this, what do they think is going to happen when you use one single unit for transplants and issue as many tags as they did on the Plateau? We are not talking about an endless resource. There shouldn't be any doe hunts if they are serious about rebounding that herd.

It's always an adventure!!!
