LAST EDITED ON Sep-07-11 AT 01:58PM (MST)[p]Hey guys, I finally took the plunge this year and got into archery hunting for real. I have added pics, story, and video from my hunt to my HAC thread and thought I'd share with the bow guys. I learned a lot by browsing and searching this forum. Thanks guys! Here is my setup (not the best, but it worked!);

Bowtech Patriot (70#, 29in draw)
Tru-glo cheapo sight (will upgrade this winter)
Whisker Biscit rest (saved my butt scrambling to get set up)
GT expedition hunter arrows
Easton Tracer Noc
Cabela's FX-3 Broadhead (100gr)
Tru-gro tapout release (really like this)

Here is the link to the thread;

Andymansavage:

OUTSTANDING Buck, congratulations! That is a heck of a first archery buck......I'm sure it won't be your last. That packing out photo is what it's all about. Thanks for sharing it here.

Great job and congrats on the deer. Awesome you started out like you have and are successful right away. Your hooked now! A lot of us had to wait years to connect. Glad you were able to use this sight to help you along the way.

GReat buck and congrats on your bull last year. I just watched the video. Good stuff.

Quartering to, downhill shot, 65 yards. It was a pass through (arrow not recovered). It went in at the right shoulder and through the shoulder muscle and tendons, down through right lung, caught the top of the heart, some left lung then out through the ribs on the left brisket behind the front leg. The exit hole looked just like the entrance, so I am assuming that the broadhead remained intact.

I'd say it did okay ;-)

I didn't take a picture of the exit hole on this deer, but I just pulled a still from the video. Looking at the entrance and exit you can tell that it was a steep angled quartering-to shot and the arrow hit all the good stuff. I always find it really interesting to see how much the path through the animal changes based on angles....it really shows that you have to think of shot placement in a 3d way as a line through the vitals and not just point of impact in the traditional spot if the animal is not perfectly broadside on flat ground.....
