Well, just couldn't stand it anymore. I had to go up to my stomping grounds and to have a look around. It was worth the gas money. I saw hundreds of elk. Saw one spike still wearing his headgear. Unreal. Also, got snowed on. I went to one spot where I shot my elk last year and had two yearlings walk up to about 40-50 yards until they saw me standing there. When they turned to retreat I pulled out my turkey call and let out a bunch of quick lonely hen calls and they stopped in their tracks, turned around, and came right back to me. I thought that was pretty cool. They came to 25 yards and stopped, but I kept hearing hoove -steps. I looked right behind me and uphill and there was another yearling standing on top of a rock right above me. I could have hit her with a fishing rod. She just stood there with the sun in her eyes looking everywhere for that sound. Very cool morning. Not the last time I will try that trick. I guess it must have sounded like a calf or something to them. Anybody ever done that or heard of a similar experience?
