We're headed up 1st rifle season again with cow tags. We normally hunt 9300 to 10500 ft of elevation, however; with the strange summer I am beginning to wonder if we should concentrate elsewhere.

So if you bow hunted this area I'm curious what your observations were. Were they in traditional areas? Also were they really concentrated around water? And how dry is it?

Pretty dry. There is a fire in 33 and 23 they just can't seem to get out. It's just smoldering but were approaching 1000 acres. USFS may restrict access into a big swath of land up there. Reports I've heard is that elk are already heading west into private land in 13 and 211. Should be able to get into cows if you hunt hard. Best of luck.
