LAST EDITED ON Jul-16-05 AT 06:39PM (MST)[p]Take the last day or two as your meat is getting processed, pack all your bags and gear, except for a small duffle for necessities to see the sites, and UPS and Fedex (gun) your gear home, leaving both or all 3 of your checked bags available for 70lb meat boxes. I specifically choose airlines for their maximum bag alotment minus their best airfair price at the time of booking. Also I checked the extra bag fee and rate that against my best airfair price (+ or -) overage against each other.....this takes some time on Travelocity and each carriers website for baggage requirements. Case in point....I shipped my gun case home through Fedex while my elk was getting packed.....$60.....a $30 dollar savings from the $90 extra bag fee.....and $60 for a cardboard box that fit my entire Cabelas pack frame and gear.....a savings of $30 and I didn't have to haul all that crap home....it arrived on my door step 2 days after I shipped it. This allowed my (1) checked bag (my marine cooler filled with camp gear and some extra stuff...70lbs) and (2) no-charge 70lb frozen meat boxes. I got stuck paying for only (1) extra bag at $90. If I would have shipped home my gun case, packframe/in cooler, extra bag and (3) meat boxes..... I would have been in for $270+......I only saved $60 but I didn't have to haul all that stuff around the airport!!!! and I had the downtime anyway waiting on the processor (2 days). Also I came home with my meat.....no way was I leaving that meat there when I just spent 2 days humping it out of the high country on foot!!!!!! Anal retentive as hell.....but I was taking no chances!!!!!!!
