....and I'm betting that area is now off limits to the public that owns the area until the wolves are done doing what wolves do....

Why not? We have wolves too.

"...and officers with the WDNR were told they could kill the wolves if the animals were still ?surrounding the female,? ?"

Who told them that? By what authority? That's good to know.

Who cares who authorized self defense? If any properly armed and prepared person needs authorization to defend themselves they're screwed.

If you shoot a wolf and then turn yourself in and tell the warden it was threating you, do you think they would say "That's okay then, good job"?

Wolves dont threaten people. Wolves have NEVER attcked a human being. Just like Mt Lions.

"In April 1922 Cochrane was employed in trapping animals when he was attacked by a large pack of timber wolves. When searchers arrived at the horrific scene they found the bones of Cochrane's body, a rifle with a broken buttstock, and the bones of eleven huge timber wolves. Seven of the wolves had been shot and four had been clubbed to death by Cochrane's rifle buttstock. The remaining wolf pack overwhelmed Cochrane causing his death."
The beauty of the web is fact checking someone. That is just one of the stories about wolves killing humans. There is a whole list of attacks. Just found that to be the most incredible.

Thanks for posting. Seems to me a human was attacked in Canada 5-6 years ago. Seemed like he was a young male hiker.

So there's the CA angle on this story. You must carry a reduced capacity magazine of no more than 10 rounds in your pistol. A pack of more than 11 wolves took that trapper down. Even with perfect shooting (that trapper probably had a 6+1 M94, got 7 with the rifle), added ammunition capacity would be benificial in a situation like being attacked by a pack of vicious animals.
