Just wanted to let you all know that due to increased military training that FHL will be closed to elk hunting in 2016.

Elk Hunts Cancelled at Fort Hunter Liggett for 2016/17 Season
Fort Hunter Liggett (FHL) has sponsored tule elk hunts since 1996, however, its primary mission is to support military training. Due to additional operational requirements, the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) in cooperation with FHL have cancelled the elk hunts for the 2016/17 hunting season. The part of the base scheduled to be closed represent a significant majority of the areas where elk are typically harvested. It was determined that a viable, quality elk hunt with a reasonable and fair possibility for success at FHL would not be possible. This decision does not affect the FHL Management Deer Hunts (J-10, G-8, A-33), as currently, there would still be good opportunities to harvest deer.

Public inquiries are to be directed to FHL's Public Affair Office at:
[email protected] or (831) 386-2530,
or CDFW Joe Hobbs [email protected] (916) 445-9992.

That's a big bummer. It's the only elk hunt I put in for.
