I have an elk cape that I fleshed and froze from last fall. How long will it still be usable? I folded it flesh side to flesh side and placed it in a garbage bag. Any input from the experts would be appreciated.

They can get freezer burn just like anything in the freezer. There are several ways to store capes for long term. The best is to flesh the cape, turn the ears, nose, eyes, etc., then salt it and let it dry. Before it gets hard, roll it up. Then store it in a dry area for as long as you want. If you have a cape that is tanned, it should be good for several years before you need to get it mounted. you can also wet it down, roll it up and store it in the freezer.

More than likely an elk cape rolled up and frozen for one year should still be good. I would be very surprised if it was unusable.
