Started out August taking my FIL on his antelope hunt. This is only his second hunt under his belt after a bunch of failed stalks he was able to get a good shot.
My good buddy and I headed to my elk hunt and the rut as you know was slow to say the least. This year I vowed to shoot at something so on the 10th day I got 60 yards and was able to fill the freezer woo hoo.
My wife had surgery and came home to spend a few days and it was off again to help my nephew fill his archery tag.The rut had picked up and we were at least chasing bugles
We had sat a tank with no luck but I knew the distance to the water. One evening we were chasing bulls and it started pouring as we were walking by this tank mikey said he saw something ,We waited and sure enough it was a bull coming to water as I look to my left I see the blind and we are about 5 yards from it so I tell him to put his 40yrd pin a little high when he gets to the water.
The bull gets to the water and I push mikey to a little tree and he draws I can see him kind of shaking and hear the string hit his sleeve as he releases also hear the arrow hit rock.
The bull calmly walks out of the tank onto the burm and I glass to see if I see blood or the arrow and see neither. The bull then walks the burm and is now at like 70 yrds out of mikeys range. The bull then makes a u turn and stats walking the way he originally came from and stops.
Im thinking he wants to go back to water. But then he almost falls down,Im like holy shite mikey did you hit him.He said I didn't think so.The bull then turns around on the burm again and starts walking, thats when I see the hole he walks about 20 yards and starts to pile up.
Taking his last breaths.
It was a complete passthru that's the reason we heard the arrow.
Im out chasing bucks now with my other nephew Jacob he almost killed a really good buck yesterday, only needed a couple more seconds.Lets see what October-November bring. good luck on your hunts
