Well after 40yrs of Mule Deer hunting I finally killed a 30in Buck.
He won't score well-no eyeguards and only a 3 point on one side but he is a big ole Buck and fat as a Butterball Turkey. My dad showed up today so we are going out tommorrow and I'm giving him Packmule 101 lessens HEHEHE.

Mike,
congrats to you on a nice buck, better than that little one you got a few years ago when I was with you. Have a few extra beers at the watering hole for me. LOL

Pay no attention to Steve, he has a fixation with wood piles and also kiln dry redwood. LOL
Just got an e-mail today from a friend I use to work with and he sent a picture of the buck he got back there I think up in Reg. H
just waiting to hear back from him if I can post the picture of his buck from last week.

I was kinda busy visiting last night so I'll tell the story this morning before we head out. Unit 135 opened yesterday and I'd been waiting impaitently since this was where I'd seen some good bucks.
Left the house at 5:00 a.m. and got to the jumping off place at 6:00.
So I sat in the pickup for an hour before it got daylight to start hunting. Finallv the witching hour begins and I make it about 100 yds a dozen does and fawns are feeding and I skirt around that bunch heading up the hill. Pretty quick Bullwinkle is on the move and looking for a girlfriend and he kinda made a little nervous cause he kept coming at me showing no fear at all. Got around him and immediately I hear a buck snort and all I see is a buck rack blowing sideways thru the timber. I stop and Bambi's baby brother is giving me the stare down along with a small 3 point. No shooter's-so I move on since I could'nt see the better buck. About 7:30 the Elk decide to get in the scenerio-2 Bulls start bugling and one is trying to egg the other on for dominance and they are talking in the general direction I was heading. So I start the sneak on them just to see if I can get a peek. I'm sneeking along and the wind direction is perfect-just a slight breeze in my face. The bugles are getting closer, closer and then I'm right in between the both and can't see anything. One up hill and the other down below so I move on. About a 100 yards I do the ole glass scan thru the timber trick and 4 Bucks are feeding. One is a nice 24-26in 4 point and I almost put the hammer down but decided not to since of all the game I'd been seeing so far. My Dad said he'd show up at our place in the afternoon so I figured I'd go a little farther ahead and then make a sweep back towards the pickup. I was easing thru a small opening doing the bino scan and I see another smaller buck laying down watching me. So I move thru this and about 300 yds from him I look up the ridge side and this big ole buck is giving me the stare down. I see horns sticking out over his ears about 3 inches on each side and said to myself (THAT'S A 30 INCHER!)I pull up the .270 and have a clean broadside shot, the shotgun safety goes off on my ruger M77 and down he goes like a sack off potatoes. I walk up and giving the old Indian dance & look him over and I nailed him right in the white spot on the neck. WHOA! I guess I got a little nervous looking at those horns and almost missed him. This ole guy has some character-both ears are clipped & torn from previous ruts and the ole roman nose has got some battle scars- and he hardly has any teeth. He was definetly going downhill horn wise. Needless to say it was another great experience here in the great state of Wyoming.

Great job Longun! You deserve him! Are you going to do a European mount? That is a wide sucker!

Congrats Mike, that is a dandy buck! I was gonna call you about a big buck hunt later in the week, looks like you don't have to go now. What a pig of a deer. Again congrats, you deserved him.

Mike,
Good story and congrats to you again. At least this story was more exciting than our little adventure there. One of these years I will get back there again to hut.

Well you got your I hope it time for me to get mine. That's a nice buck, and the one at the wood pile isn't too bad either.
