Now the issue is settled, will the Game and Fish open up area 79 elk and the Bison and Moose areas for hunting?
“In sum, because the Wyoming Legislature did not authorize any cession of jurisdiction to the federal government over park inholdings in connections with the 1949-50 negotiations, no valid cession occurred,” Holmes wrote in an opinion issued Wednesday.” https://trib.com/news/state-and-reg...cle_48f63048-f06d-566c-97dd-591aef00d844.html

Didn't they say WG&F would manage the lands within in the the park now that Wyoming owns ?
Would be good for bison for sure.

Yes, the Courts have now decided Wyoming can manage those lands but there have no opening of any area 79 elk.licenses for many years and the bison and moose areas would need to opened. It’s like they have jurisdiction now but haven’t taken any action, perhaps they will in the upcoming Commisioner meetings? Many of those in holdings could produce incredible trophy moose, bison and elk.

Bison or any legal wildlife have been hunted on state inholdings in the Park for at least 7 or 8 years.

. There are many private in holdings within GTNP which are NOT in area 2 bison hunt area. Those lands would have to be opened up by the Commission. This also applies to moose, and many other species. Wolf and Grizzly bear would also need to be looked at.

The problem with all this is the Park Service doesn't allow hunters to remove any animals across Park lands except elk or in one area bison on a retrieval route.

Many of these private in holdings have deeded private access which guarantees certain rights and privileges. I realise we are dealing with a National Park but the Judge seemed quite clear in the ruling the State of Wyoming has hunting jurisdiction and oversight of these private in holdings. It is one thing to drag a carcass across Federal National Park lands but quite another to just shoot a bison on a private 100 acre parcel then load it in a pickup and drive to Jackson. I have seen hunters shoot elk and deer in the John D. Rockefeller Parkway and then load the carcass in a pickup and then drive south thru Park lands to Jackson before. The Comission would certainly need to meet and discuss all the policies and their ramifications but there are some trophy bison, moose, elk and wolves passing thru and living in many of those private in holdings.
