Have rifle & scope, need help choosing rings

How complicated is it to pick a set of scope rings that work? Can the purchase be planned or is fitting the right ones trial-and-error?

I have a Tikka T3 compact (243win) and Leupold VX-1 2-7x33 rifle scope (9.9 oz!) for my little guy, and would like to pick up a set rings to keep that scope as close to the barrel as I can, so he doesn't have to lift his head and break his cheek weld, just to look through the scope.

The Tikka T3 has grooves machined in the receiver.

I'm all for buying decent equipment, but I'm worried about paying $50-$70 for a set of rings that result in the bolt handle being obstructed by the scope.

Am I in trial-and-error land, or is there a way to figure out the right size before pressing the "buy now" button?

Thanks guys, RS.

DNZ low mount in whatever size tube your Leupy is. Bolts right on top of the receiver in the factory threads. No rail needed. Has a cutout that matches the action.
