when i hunted the henry mnts. in 2011 there were literally 200" bucks to be had everyday of the hunt. i had 6-8 family members and friends helping me daily and bt. us all we were glassing up 180+ bucks every evening and morning with a few 200+. my brother and friend had scouted the unit for me in the summer and located 5 bucks over 220". Believe it or not, i had passed on a 236 and a 232 before i killed my 222 b/c i was trying to harvest a monster 210" typical. the 222 just kind of happened. the mega giant 236 had more mass than any muley i had ever or since seen. had i seen him after my blown attempt at the typical i would have hunted it. i hunted five day and saw w/in muzzy range 3 bucks over 220", two over 210", and three over 200". weird thing was all but one of those bucks was shot and killed on the muzzy hunt or rifle hunt. the only one that made it was the giant typical, which was killed the following yr. the henries is by far the greatest place to hunt giant mule deer IMO. it the best hunt for a family of muley crazy hunters to enjoy in the west.
the strip is entirely different. i can honestly say that i lucked out and beat 1/60 odds of killing the buck i did. it's a very tough hunt depending on the horn growth, unit, and yr. it was a totally different hunt and there was much more nerves involved in the hunt. i was literally hunting one buck and one buck only. i had no back up buck despite the relentless efforts of the best in the business and amazing family and friends.
all in all, i would choose the henries over the strip. the competition for a buck of a life time is much less and you can enjoy every minute of the hunt w/o feeling like it might not ever happen on your OIL opportunity.
