I've researched this and a buck is not done growing in mid July... on many pre-season hikes I've seen the same groups of bucks grow considerably larger by September seasons.
Deer's antlers can grow a 1/4 inch per day with optimal nutrition and deer health during these green months. As testosterone levels increase as rut approaches, continued growth does slow from mid July into September but can be quite a bit.
I've shot September bucks in both archery/muzzleloader seasons one was in velvet and one was hard horned already. Don't have my pics handy, I'll find some to post.
