Alright Brut maybe that was a little harsh... Let me take a stab at "splainin" the finances to ya.
A certain amount of tag dollars is matched by the Feds. So you are not just losing the $35.00 dollars x 13,000 tags you are actually losing approximately 3 times that much in matching funds. Now, that being said, the Feds dole out the cash according to the amount of licenses sold on a sliding scale. The more permits sold the higher the ratio in matching funds the state gets back.
P.R. Funds come from excise taxes on ammo, arrows and so on. If 13,000 of us have no need for this in 2012 then you cut even deeper than just losing out on the permits.
This is why you cant get a concrete answer about what prices will be next year.
The $140.00 is a little less than what I heard.
The tag cutting proponents expect a LOT more management on these 29 units but they cut all the necessary funding to make this a reality. Not only funding for deer but for all other DWR managed species as well, fish, waterfowl, upland game and probably law enforcement.
2010 TOTALS
