Hunting AZ

Hi all, I will have 5 points next year in AZ for elk I know not alot, but is there a unit that has good odds and a chance at a nice bull? Also the same question about deer, I will only have 3 or 4 points next year.

the Sept archery elk hunts are Your best chance,followed by the Nov General elk hunts.Units like 5B South and unit 6A offer goods odds to draw with 5 B.P. and have plenty 6X6 bulls.As for the deer,with 3-4 B.P. put in for the EARLY hunts in 12A-W and East on or near the Famous Kaibab Plateau.Good Luck,apply this year for the deer hunts,deadline in June.Drop Me a line if more Info & Help is needed www.silvergrandoutfitters.com

Elk, about any unit you get drawn for will yield a good hunt depending on weapon, obviously the later seasons are easier to draw but lower success for many people. Typically the hunts that are late will give a better opp at a tag. Unit1 late is a good hunt, 4A archery has good odds with nice bulls, 7W has very good odds and great bulls for archery and rifle. Bottom line on elk is where you can draw could be a great hunt.
Deer, I differ from many people but I say stay as far from Kiabab as you can. Early hunts can be OK, but typically most hunters harvest 2 yr old bucks. Central AZ muzzy tag has a great draw odd and great success on 170+ bucks. With 4 points you are looking at a 60% draw odd. Don't let this stat scare you, many people do not know how to hunt the desert, but some of the best bucks in AZ live south of the gorge.
