I would recommend doing a lot of glassing. Crab Creek Basin and the rim between it and Rattlesnake usually has a decent number of deer (relatively speaking). Every mature buck we saw was alone, on the move, going from one little group of does to another. The deer out there are pretty sparce, so those bucks seemed to cover a lot of country. We spent a great deal of time on rim tops glued to our binos, in areas we knew there were does, hoping that at some point a good buck would come roaming into the area. We also did quite a bit of tracking. In 2000, we had good snow and when we'd cut a fresh, lone track, we took off on it. We tracked down several bucks this way, most of which weren't what we wanted. Of the bucks we got in 2000 and 2002, one was tracked, two were spotted and intercepted as they were out roaming, and one was spotted and stalked while bedded under a rim. Every buck was by himself. We had dreams of seeing big bucks with every group of does but it didn't work out this way for us. Lots of glassing and covering lots of country. Hope this helps.
