Any suggestions on unit 83 , early, late?
I huntEd this ranch for bear , and seems the elk were above timber
its a nice place just wondering when is best time, it’s private land owner tags , near co rd 13 from chimney rock Colorado

What is the elevation of the ranch and what are the seasons and possible dates you are looking at? Archery, muzzleloader, rifle?

It’s really mixed on elevation probably 2/3 8000 + , the owner says late season is 4x4 + chains , I prefer rifle or muzzle, since it’s a free hunt, I will accept any tags the ranch has extra, cow or scrub bull
my bear hunt was on the lower part in oak scrub country vs the timber up higher

If the elk are there in September I would personally choose muzzleloading season. I hunted a ranch very similar to that one. Went from 7-9000 ft. I saw elk from top to bottom. Mostly hunted at the edges of the Aspen. Elk would usually bed in the timber and feed in the Aspen and oakbrush.

Also depends on if there is public land around the ranch. If so, the elk would concentrate on the ranch in the rifle seasons because public pressure would push them there. If surrounded by private, that would not be the case.
