I pulled this article off of another hunting site. I thought it was some pretty interesting reading. For those supporters of bush, enjoy, for those bush bashers...lets hear what you have to say as well!!

PRESIDENT BUSH RECOGNIZES SPORTSMEN

WASHINGTON, D.C. ? In an unprecedented meeting, President George W. Bush met at the White House for over an hour with the leaders of 20 sportsmen and conservation organizations commended their efforts in the passage of the Healthy Forest Restoration Act and the Farm Bill.

Those in attendance at the Oval Office included representatives of the American Wildlife Conservation Partners (AWCP), Secretary of the Interior Gale Norton, and Fish and Wildlife Service Director Steve Williams (both Ex-Officio Members of the Boone and Crockett Club), and Boone and Crockett Club President, Robert Model.

Robert Model stated, ?This meeting with President Bush was a historic meeting in terms of our nation?s conservation movement. Not since President Theodore Roosevelt (the founder of Boone & Crockett in 1887), has an American President put so much effort into tapping the expertise and experience of those in our country who are the true conservationists?.America?s sportsmen!?

Model added, ?I was impressed by the sincere appreciation the President offered to each of us for the support of the Healthy Forests legislation. He truly understands and believes that if we continue to watch millions of acres of federal forests burn each summer, that we'll do irreparable long-term harm to our water, the air the we breathe, and the critical habitat needed to sustain wildlife.?

In the early 1900s the Boone and Crockett Club played a major role in shaping this country?s conservation system. In 2000, Daniel A. Pedrotti, then president of the Club was instrumental in founding the AWCP, a coalition of 35 sportsmen and conservation groups, which first presented the idea of healthy forests to President Bush in April 2001 in a report, Wildlife for the 21st Century, Recommendations to President George W. Bush.

Rarely does such a meeting with the President last more than 15 minutes. The President's commitment of over an hour demonstrates his understanding of the importance of sportsmen in future conservation policy and as the most qualified stewards of wildlife and habitat.
