Is This True?

I was at Wal Mart yesterday buying my duck stamps and type b pass. I asked the guy who works there about this new law Calif. passed regarding being finger printed when buying ammo. He said he did not know all the details but he did know that when you buy ammo. Wal Mart will write down your name, address and the type of ammo (i.e. .270) that you bought. Then Wal Mart or who ever you buy from will send that info. to the state. Then the state will check to see if you have a .270 (or whatever caliber of ammo you buy) registered. If you do not have a .270 registered then they will be contacting you to find out why you bought that ammo. Is this true, has anyone else heard about this? I'm really pissed, I'm pissed anytime a new law is passed that effects guns, hunting etc. but this one is sneaky. On the surface it looks all innocent, just wanting to make sure your not a criminal. NO, they did this to see who has unregistered guns. What does that tell you, they are preparing for something and they want to know what they are up against. I know, I know I'm paranoid my wife already told me. But thats not what were debating at this time. Anyway, I say's to the guy well I'll just drive to Oregon which is about 30 minutes from my house and pay cash for the ammo. He say's no you will not, every other state will be requiring you show your drivers license when you buy ammo and if your address is Calif. they wont sell it to you.

WTF, is going on and when are we going to do something, and what can we do? I'm really upset about this new law, has anyone else heard anything about this. I'm just wondering if it's true about the checking to see if you have a gun registered for that type of ammo. I also told the guy that when the state contacts me I'll tell them I bought it as a gift. Again he said they will contact the person you bought it for to see if they have a gun registered.

It's getting scary, I'm telling you I don't like this one bit. I hope this is not true and I hope I'm wrong. Anyone with info. on this I would really appreciate it if you could enlighten me with the real story. Man, I hope what that guy told me is incorrect.

I'm personally not sure of the details yet but I wouldn't be listening to a Wal Mart assoicate for a source of info on gun or ammo regulations. Remember these are the guys who couldn't fill out the FFL paperwork right and got in deep doo.

Actually I think your right Manny...Until the anti's realize that many rifle calibers can be considered handgun ammo (eg. the TC contender's)

I understand the whole Wal Mart associate thing, that is why I'm asking if anyone else has info. on it. I don't believe everything the guy said, however I can see and believe the part about the info. being sent to the state and the state looking to see if you have a gun registered for that ammo. you bought. I'm trying to find out more info.on my own but if anyone knows anything i would appreciate it.

Thank you,

Some of the info is correct and some is not.

This is the result of Assembly bill 962, which Arnie signed into law this month. It goes into effect Feb 1st, 2011.

Actually, you will be fingerprinted at time of sale and the store must make the records available for inspection for 5 years. They do not actually have to send the records in........who knows where they COULD go?

The mail order ammo is out also.

Now, there is a movement to repeal this dumb, costly law and that is, Assembly Bill 373.

If you don't like the law, you need to call, write and register a complaint with your representative.

The California Rifle and Pistol Association is pushing this hard, so you can get in touch with them and help out.

I think this will be another of those numbers games that we will surely lose, but I have sent letters anyway.

Given the availability of ammo over the past 12 months, what will it be in 6 months?

Nickman hit it perfect. One more thing we all can do. Vote every liberal, socialist, tree hugging democrat out of any office, anywhere next time. As Obama chicago politics would say "Vote early and often"
By the way, will anyone now admit voting for this left wing liberal socialist? HOPE 4 CHANGE 11/2012.......Hilary looks like a conservative vs. this guy. P.S. Arnie signed the ammo bill and is lead around the bedroom by a liberal.

LAST EDITED ON Oct-23-09 AT 07:45PM (MST)[p]I'm not afraid to say that I have not voted Democrat since I was old enough to vote. The only thing in pollitics that I care about when you are talking about a politician is where they stand on firearms. Any and all politicians will sit there and say what the public wants to hear and then do whatever they can to fatten their wallets. I'm sick and tired of all the BS. This country is so far off track it's not even funny and I don't see it getting better soon. Every great nation falls from within. This country sold it's self out a long time ago. It's time the people do something and I don't know what or how but I'm willing to do what I can to start rectifying what we can, one thing is call and let them know where we stand on this bill. I'm really tired of standing on the sidelines crying about it, I want to get involved and educate myself so my children have some rights and hopefully a gun to protect those rights.

I apologize guys, I didn't mean to get all political it's just well I'm really frustrated.

I hear Ya slide, "Kalifornia" is a lost cause. We are way outnumbered by the left wing liberals. They will stop all ocean fishing without a vote next spring, ( google MLPA), They will not stop until we can no longer own or posess ammo and firearms. Have You seen what the eco-terriosts did to the central valley farmers and towns over the delta smelt and shutting off the water. Are u FREAKING kidding me!Sounds like Germany 1938. Somewhere between socialist and facism. The tree huggers would rather vote to stop Mt. Lion hunting and become a pile of lion dung. 10 states have constitutional ammendments giving each state resident the right to hunt, fish, and bear arms.(see this issue of the american hunter) Wisconsin is one, I am gone in 21 months, and 27 days. That means my small business, jobs, boat, house and toothbrush. This state can kiss my checkbook bye bye!

Slide and anyone else who wants to get involved and informed on whats going on....start here.....

Go into the forums and start reading in the second amendment/polotics section.

No offense, but I get tired of all the untrue and flat out wrong information that gets passed around. You guys care about your rights????? Your minimum duty is to atleast be informed on the current issues so you can make an informed desicion at the ballot box.

"A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed."

Popeyoung, you should be aware that wisconsin along with illinois are the only 2 states in this country that flat out dont allow concealed carry permits. Does'nt sound like a gun lovers paradise to me.

Hardway,
I not sure about the concealed carry issue, I hunt and I am concerned about that aspect. I have never felt a need to carry a concealed weapon. I'm sure some people or professions might.
I do know 2 years ago my brother, a wisconsin resident and I , a California resident, walked into Cabela's in Wisconsin and bought identical shotguns. He walked out with the gun after a 2 minute phone call to the feds and I had a 14 day wait, paid hell finding an ffl in Orange county to even handle the transaction. I tried to buy the gun in California 2 weeks prior. I had 5 nice guns to trade, knowing wholesale was an even trade for the shotgun. Not one shop in orange county would even talk about a trade. Cabela's only took 4 of the guns for an even swap. No sales tax vs. California which would have charged sales tax on the full retail price even if it was an even trade.(double taxation state)
14 day cooling off period for a $2,000 Beneli super black eagle?

This happened last week at Bass pro in Rancho Cucamonga. I asked the guy at the gun counter where the shotgun slugs were. He asked me "what's a shotgun slug". I asked another guy if they stocked Hastings shotgun slugs and he asked me if Hastings was a brand name! I walked out and mail odered the Hastings slugs from Cabela's on line. I'm sure Bass pro can only hire from the pool of locals who frankly have had minimal gun and hunting experience.

LAST EDITED ON Oct-26-09 AT 05:07PM (MST)[p]14 days???.....not even in ca...it is 10 days

...and to the original question, it would not be possible to do what the clerk said anyway. Most long guns in Ca are not registered. The check and paper work done at purchase is a background check on the purchaser only...not a registration of the long gun

great post/pic, thanks for sharing

We have 6 in our family for whitetail hunting. They have been thru 8 hours in a tree at 30 below zero, always fired, ejected, never had a problem. Ust them for turkey, ducks and geese as well. Super accurate and easy to clean. Guess we have lucked out so far.

LAST EDITED ON Oct-29-09 AT 05:31PM (MST)[p]Slide, the bill that passed requires anyone wanting to buy handgun ammunition must supply identification and give a thumbprint in CA. As far as Walmart, if they are taking down any identification for other than handgun ammunition may be illegal. Hope it helps.
