It's Time We Unite!!!

I have lived, hunted, fished and trapped in this state for 40 plus years with my father and now my two boys. Just like everyone else who lives, hunts and plays here I have watched the decline of our animals and the quality of hunting drop while the cost continues to rise. We are hardcore dedicated hunters who go every year, this is not a cry fest about how bad hunting is in our state, we all know that.

I don't post on here very often and it has been a very long time since I have posted due to some personal problems in my life. But something is nagging at me and I have to get it off my chest and see if I'm the only one who feels this way.

Every year our wonderful state passes more and more laws against, hunters, guns and etc. This year is a big one, they are going after the Hound hunters and the use of their dogs. Now I don't and have never bear hunted, quite honest it's not my thing. But that doesen't matter we are all hunters, if they stop the use of dogs for bear hunting whats next no dogs for deer huting, then no dogs for duck hunting and then upland hunting?

I'm just as guilty as the next guy and this is why I'm writing this post, I don't know what kind of crud I will get for this but I feel it needs to be said. IN MY OPINION, our problem as hunters, outdoorsman is we don't stick together and unite when these liberals attack a particular group of us. Instead if it does not affect us directly we turn a blind eye or mumble under our breath. My point is the reason the liberals are so strong and sucessful is they are united. We need to unite as hunters and support one another no matter if it affects us directly or not. I don't have the anwser on how to make this happen, that is my reason for posting this. But I truly believe that if we would unite and support each other every time they come after us we would be stronger and harder to beat. Maybe I'm wrong, it wouldn't be the first time. I'm ready to join with the rest of those of us who are outdoorsman and fight these S.O.*'s who are taking our rights away. Anyone have any ideas? I know we have the NRA and other groups, but we as hunters need to help each other and support one another personaly.

Well that's my two cents people, good luck this year and happy hunting.

Slide.....It's numbers.

Statistically, the "antis" outnumber "us" by over 3 to 1.

Even if there was a way to get every hunter who buys a license, to unite in one direction, the political power is not there.

I and most hunters I know, belong to, or contribute to several orgs dedicated to fighting the dumbasses in Sacramento.

Occasionally, we get lucky and something gets stalled, but rarely outright defeated, so it comes up again at the next available opportunity.

One of the big things that this process does is exhaust "our" financial resources. So, even though the bill fails to reach voting status, it is not defeated, only stalled.....the antis lose nothing but we have to pay more to keep the lobbyists working.

On the other hand, the people who draft and submit these bills lose nothing but time. They are not responsible to involve common sense or reality, and rely on scare tactics and distorted facts to keep the ball rolling.

They know it is costing us money and rely on the fact that they will eventually ruin us financially......through this process, gun reg fees, ammo sales taxes, etc, etc, etc.

We just have to fight the best we can, make the most of what we have and ........plan to retire in some other state.

sh!t a better argument than that!"

SLIDE........THERES THE PROBLEM IN THE NUT SHELL, AND ITS AMONG OURSELVES. I HAVE WITNESSED WAY TOO MUCH BACK STABBING, BICKERING, & NAME CALLING ON THESE PAGES TO THINK WE DONT HAVE A BIG PROBLEM. EVEN THE SPELLING/ PUNCTUATION COPS ON MM ARE A REAL PROBLEM AT TIMES, SOME OF THESE GUYS TRY TO GET A POINT ACROSS AND CANT.......FOR THE RIDICULE. WE ALSO NEED TO STOP TEARING A PART EVERY LITTLE DETAIN OF A CONVERSATION.....WHO CARES IF A .270 WILL OUT PERFORM THE .257 W.WITH A CERTAIN BULLET....ITS BS. TILL WE GET TO THAT POINT......ITS ALL FOR NOT...........YD.

Both Nickman and YD have great points.

I don't know if actual antis outnumber us (very well may i just have never seen that stat and always thought numbers were close just the message from our pespective is a tougher sell) but non hunters do and most of them don't understand our point of view but easily understand the Bambi utopia that the antis spew.

Yukon's point is a bit more on I think. Read a couple of the head shot or long range threads. Or as YD stated above a rifle cal.. Disagreement is fine and making your point is fine but some of them get NASTY!

I don't know if there is one thing in the hunting world that we would ALL agree on but if we don't start accepting all hunters as part of the group (difficult if not impossible I know) we will never have the organized numbers to win in Kali.

LAST EDITED ON Aug-21-12 AT 01:44AM (MST)[p]Can someone post a list of Assemblymen and Senators so we can e-mail them.

It ain't just hunting and fishing in this state, Just today my wife and I were walking our dogs along the beach in Mendocino County. I saw someone through the fog who seemed to be filming us. I told my wife to "tone" her dog as I did the same. As soon as the dogs got to us, I walked directly towards the person. It was a F&G employee with a pair of Swaro binos, not a camera. First statement was, "You can't let your dogs run loose on the beach. There are endangered shorebirds around here." I informed her the dogs were on electronic leashes. She replied, "I've never seen one of those, do they work?" I replied, "He's standing right next to my leg, what do you think?" She then said that there are signs up at the Ward Road parking requiring dogs to be on leashes. (Ward Road is 5 miles away) I informed her that I accessed the beach about 2 miles away, from private property and didn't see any signs. Her reply was that they need to put up more signs.

In 3 days of walking that beach, for a total of over 10 miles, I saw one other person and I saw him this morning, running with his unleashed dog. He got close, we toned our dogs and he ran by with his dog.

My thought as I walked back to the house was that if my dogs pose a threat to a shorebird, that species is going to go extinct when the coyotes and foxes learn they exist.

well if it is simply a numbers game, splain this to me, Slide you may remember this; back in the late 90's there was a muzz hunt up on the horseshoe ranch a piece of property the fish and game purchased with hunting license revenue, one year on opening day of the muzz hunt 12 protesters blocked the gate to the horseshoe and that was the end to that hunt, it never showed its face again.

I think hunters don't want to get involved? call it what you want apathy, lazy, blind maybe when it's too late ey...?

I think a lot of it is us being lazy (including myself) I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed when it comes to fighting politicians. I posess common sense, I don't know where or how to start. I'm willing to get the ball rolling BUT WE ALL HAVE TO unite or we are going to lose. If we don't do this sooner then later Calif. will take what little we have left away from us and boys and girls we don't have much.

Y.D. and Manny you are both correct. I don't know if we are out numbered, I can't and won't argue we are or are not. To me that is a mute point, THERE ARE STRENGTH IN NUMBERS if we would put our egos aside and think of our children and the one thing we all love to do, spend time in the outdoors then we might try and unite.

It's getting to the point where I can't afford to purchase tags, license, stamps etc for myselef and my boy's. I'm just a average Joe, when my boy's get a little older we are going to save our money up and go out of state for a week. It might cost a little more but by the time you add everything up it's not that much of a difference and at least my boys can see deer and deer with horns. A lot of my friends that are hard core hunters like us are talking about doing the same thing.

7 more years and my youngest is out of the nest and I'm moving out of this state, until then I would like to TRY and keep my dog for deer hunting and my guns and, and, and..........

I've always been ready to do something but never heard of anyone organizing anything, if someone with organizing skills would come forth I'd jump on board, i've written letters to the commish, but it is time to do something it 3min before midnight on my clock...

I live in Oregon now but still apply in Cali, Oregon is looking more and more like Cali with their weird regs, live traps, no mechanical broad heads, no dogs for bear or mt. lion hunts...ect:

You mention NRA in your post. If all hunters and gun owners were NRA members think about the power there. With only 2% of the gun owner population members of the NRA that is pathetic. Just think if the NRA had 10 - 15 million members, boy would the politicians fear a group like that.

I agree something needs to be done, but I think the real problem lies with the california politicians!! They have their own agenda for what they want this state to become!! Until these democratic liberal douches are removed from office this state will not change!! They will push for what they want regardless of what you and I want. The liberal nut bags in San Francisco & Sacremento speak for this whole state, and being that California is a blue (democratic)state with all the antis I not sure much can done!! I for one am leaving this state due to all the BS
& government entitlements. It is impossible to even make a living here in construction with all the environmentalist, illegals, and government red tape. I would help out, but like so many others how do you even start organizing etc!! Just my 2 cents hope I didn't offend anyone!!
