la panza bull tag

LAST EDITED ON Jul-21-10 AT 04:21PM (MST)[p]There is a fair amount of public land in the zone but also a lot of private. DFG has a couple wildlife areas and they do a draw to let one bull hunter hunt on the Chimineas Ranch wildlife area. If you are lucky that is a very good ranch to hunt. The other public property in that area also holds elk as well. The unit biologist will send you some information and he is a good person to talk to as he knows the area very well.

Good luck

Joe

Dude, you need to go to the orientation to get the chance at the F&G property. A friend of mine's wife drew a few years ago, and was the only one that took the time to go. She hunted the F&G land, and killed a HUGE bull!!! Paul

Chimineas will not let you hunt on their property. It's not like its owned and RUN by our government. If I'm not mistaken, it is somehow a 501(c)3. They do offer drive on hunts but you'd have to buy/apply for those. Congrats on the tag!

The Chimineas Ranch (state wildlife area) does allow elk hunting on the property but it is limited to one person per hunt period. There is a draw at orientation (for those who drew the LaPanza elk tag) and it is worth putting in for. Just wanted to make sure that was clear. There are usually elk on the other wildlife area and the Federal ground as well. This varies by degree each year but from radio collar information there are definately elk using the other public areas during the hunt period. Good Luck
